I am kinda new to all the high end steel. I am on the fence about two para IIs the first one has S35VN balde and the second has a CTS-XHP blade is one better than the other? I already have one with the SV30 steel.

I am also in the same predicament :/ I want the blue sprint run because my favorite color is blue but is the steel that much more worth than s30v or the orange sprint runs steel?

Well i cannot speak to the CTS-XHP.. i CAN however speak to S30V and S35VN...

Many knife makers i know cannot notice even a slight different between the S30V and S35VN in edge retention.. They say they wear the same..

Im not sure but i can only imagine they are equally easy or difficult to sharpen although that also depends on the persons abilities...

If you have 1 in S30V then it would be pointless to buy another in S35VN.. but look into the CTS-XHP... who knows it might be better...

Leme know when you decide!

I love my brown millie in XHP. It may just be me but the XHP seems to me to perform like a toughe, less chippy ZDP. Sharpens up easier too. It holds an edge better than my S30V millie.

Both good steels, do you like Brown or Orange G10 the best?

I'm getting both, but like the Brown G10 better. Orange is very hot right now though, and feel most prefer it over brown.

I always shrug my shoulders at all the different steel types. I'm pretty well-informed on their differences, but I carry so many different knives from day to day that none of them get much of a chance to dull, regardless of steel type. 'Bout the only ones that do are my work knives, and for whatever reason, those always tend to use the cheapest steels!

The PM2 hasn't been made in a weak or substandard steel yet, and it never will. So, unless you're planning on using your new knife very hard, or very often, or you have a real aversion to the occasional sharpening, you can't go wrong with any of them. My opinion is: pick your favorite color and go for it. That said, I thought the blue M390 was too expensive considering I wasn't likely to use it often enough to put the steel through its paces.

Shoot, gimme a full line of PM2s in various colors in VG10 and I'll be jumping for joy.

If you're worried about justifying the price bump for the M390 (which I have and love), but still dig the steel, you could wait for the green pm2 to come out, which will be just about the same thing in a different color and probably cheaper. The XHP version is going to be awesome and is a great value for the performance you'll get.

If you're going to be using the knife as a worker, I think any of the three (blue, orange, green) will noticeably outperform S30V. However, if it's going to be a casual use folder, then you probably won't notice a difference until you go to sharpen. My favorite is the M390, but that's because it's blue. I'm most excited for the XHP in terms of steel...but that's just me, ymmv.

What he said. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
S35V isn't gonna do much for you if you already have S30v.
