I feel kinda stupid asking this but, I know very little about the ESEE company and their claim to fame. I have several ZT/Emersons/Benchmade but when I saw the press release and read over the specs of the new upcoming HEST FOLDER, I immediately got on a list to get one. Can someone give me a little background of the company making the new HEST folder and of some of their accomplishments.

HEST Folder is being made by Lion Steel in Italy. ESEE orginally brought on Robert Young Pelton / DPx Gear as a collaboration on the HEST fixed blade. The knife and DPx Gear have done very well. We recently decided to split the two companies off since DPx Gear is headed towards a different market than ESEE. This was the plan all along since ESEE never owned (nor wanted to own) the DPx brand or designs. So, to answer your question, the folder is being made for DPx by Lion Steel in Italy. DPx will be distributing this folder to the dealer network.

The companies...

+1 to what Don said, check the new DPx subforum.

As far as DPx it is under Robert Young Pelton (RYP.) He wrote the "Worlds Most Dangerous Places" book, also "Come Back Alive" and others. He has real experience in truly nasty places. Jeff and Mike seem to give the guy a +1 on credibility, which to me says something.

Lion Steel. Don't know much personally. What I've dug up they're a top notch knife maker from Italy. They make expensive high quality knives.

So get over to the DPx forums, and get your google fu on.

God bless,
Adam

Lion Steel makes a monster knife, I don't have any concerns about them.

Look up the Lion Steel SR1 here for an eyefull, there are youtube reviews on them as well so you can see them in motion.

With any knife, it's all about who makes them and with what materials. Who distributes them or what labels/stickers are on the knife doesn't really matter...though for warranty purposes down the line it might.

I gave the wife a short list of knives I want, the HEST folder was on it....though unfortunately I think her knife order already arrived so I can safely rule out the HEST as the one she picked off the list. Heh.

Thanks guys. I am a hardcore bow/gun hunter that needs a EDC that is capable of field dressing deer and bear. The HEST folder looks to be the right size/construction for my needs. I tend to find myself field dressing or skinning several deer each year besides my own. The funny thing is if my brother-in-law calls me up to see what he just shot. I tend to be the one skinning it out and I do it with my EDC that I have on hand. I am on a list for the HEST and ZT 0550. I am not sure if I will buy both. Any input between the two would be great.

The HEST and the Cold Steel American Lawman are high on my list as super rugged, everyday users.

The Lawman's drop point is a blade shape that I always liked when I was hunting. The Recon 1 has a pointier clip type point, either one has a lock that is pretty much as strong as you can make one...and either one are the sort of knife you wouldn't feel the least bit bad about pounding on.

The new ZT is a heck of a knife too...finally no recurve on the blade, also sort of on my radar.

I honestly like the bottle opener on the HEST...it would see more use than the blade the way I live these days and give me an excuse to keep it on hand all the time.
