Financially, that is.
For years I have been bellyaching about the lack of brick & mortar knife shops in my area. I have been patronizing a local hardware store with a mediocre selection of Case knives at ridiculous prices. I like to CE & CF my knives before I buy them, if at all possible. I am willing to pay a premium to do this, because I feel it's worth it. I usually buy most of my knives online, because I have been unable to find anyplace near me with a decent selection.
Well, today I discovered that there is a Case Master Dealer within 15 minutes of my house.
I went there this morning with my son. Oh. My. Goodness. I have NEVER seen that many Cases in one place at once. Except for maybe at the Blade show. I was in Heaven! They had the full line of current production Cases, going back a couple years, including the Tony Bose collaborations, and Case Select. Oh yes! I got to handle a Tribal Spear (which was really, really nice) and countless other drool-worthy knives.
I am in SO much trouble.
The best part is that the store's prices are very, very decent. And they're flexible on the prices. The guy working there was super nice, and very cool. He gave my son a Case pin, and was very patient with us, letting me fondle any of the knives I wanted, and was perfectly happy to talk knives for a good long time. I finally decided on a medium stockman in carbon and chestnut bone, which has flawless f&f. The guy gave me a discount, since I think he realized he has a new junkie/ regular customer on his hands. So I walked out the door with a nice new knife FOR LESS than I would have paid for it if I bought it online (including shipping).:thumbup::thumbup:
Needless to say, I will be visiting that store frequently.
Just thought I'd crow about this to you guys. Case has a dealer locator on their site, and believe me, it's well worth using! Nothing beats getting to handle your knives in person before you buy them!
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to force a patina on this sweet little thing, and convex her up real nice.
