I am thankful for the Swiss Champ XAVT and Swiss Champ XXLT and Wenger Giant Knife

If only because they serve to remind me that (a) trying to own every "essential" model of SAK is a silly, bank account draining, quest and (b) that there really is no one single end-all, be-all, ultimate SAK.

FWIW, I have no desire to own either of these. The SAVT electronics rather turn me off. The XXLT would be really fun to play with for a few days. Hell, if I get a steal on eBay I may even buy one to serve as a coffee table ornament. But for actual carry and usage, you can forget it.

For now I think the Ranger, at five layers, is where I draw the line. I just got one and it's actually more manageable to carry than I thought it might be. My next biggest SAK is the four layer Explorer. Anything more and it annoys me how you have to open tools just to get to the actual tool you want to open. Plus most SAKs that are thicker than they are tall feel like a brick in my pocket. And I am not an EDC belt sheath guy.

The Explorer and Outdoorsman are my two favorites.

I have to have the magnifying glass and I prefer the old style. I have bought a few Explorers and Outdoorsman models with the old style mags and re-scaled them with new "plus" scales. Got me some ink pens, straight pins, and mini drivers and now have what I consider the perfect EDC knives.

These have ruined me from carrying my older Schrades and CV Cases.

I hasten to say that these are not my SAKs, but I did get to have a good look at them.

Are they a bit silly and impractical? You betcha. Would I have one of them as a conversation piece and money were no object? Absolutely yes.:D

I went as far as to get the XLT, and that was insane enough.

Is it actually usable? I have the Swisschamp and the Cybertool 41, which are both quite usable. I always thought it would be kinda nice to have both in one package.

Oh, I'd love to play around with any of those. For sure. And if money were no object, any of them would make a lovely paperweight/conversation-piece.

Gareth,

Is the bottom knife the Wenger Giant Knife? Is it true that the blades on that thing aren't even sharpened? I've heard they're not, since it's designed for demonstration rather than actual use.

After purchasing the XLT case, it was a bit bulky. I went back to my SwissChamp, Cybertool 34, and Cybertool Lite.
