I was gonna be making a Kydex sheath for my Tac-Tool. However I couldn't find anyone local that sold Kydex. So, in turn I called Hobby Lobby and sure enough they sold leather sheets. Quick run up there and I got busy when I got back.

First up, the tools.

Next up, my cheesy press! Once I broke the plastic cutting board, I switched to two pieces of wood.

The new moo pants for the 3, in it's rough stage.

In it's less than rough stage, still looking real rough though.

Once it's dyed and rivets put in.

Other side of it.

And it's DONE!

This is gonna be kept most likely in the car so I don't need to put a belt loop on it. However if I decide to later I can, I still have the rivets.

Not bad man....is this a one time thing or do you think you are going to start a new hobby?

I got a hold of my buddy down in Florida that is a leather maker, asking him for scraps so I can work on some other stuff... I want to try making one for a couple of my pocket knives.

I also want to make one for my 10.

Added a few more rivets. I had originally screwed up the first two on the bottom. Didn't realize they had backers on them. SO, took them out and laid in new ones. While they were out, I sewed on the BK&T patch.

Looks good man, wouldn't have known it was your first try. Maybe I'll be contacting you for moo pants in the future if you keep on with it!

This is my 14

This is my other knife...

Wait...What's this, THAT isn't a 14... It's an 11! Yes it took some time on a sander to get it comfortable however it is really nice now!

This was the rest of my weekend's activities.

very interesting. got any more pics? different angles and what not? thats ingenious...great idea!

How's the retention on that? I haven't done too much with molding, since the leather I use seems to work differently from kydex because it's not as stiff. I wonder if courbouilled leather would be similar to kydex in function.

The retention is amazing honestly. If it was going to be a belt sheath, I'd probably add a retention strap but only one. It's just tooling leather that I got from Hobby Lobby.

The 11 is kind of ghetto rigged right now. I am trying to decide if I like it or not. It feels AMAZING in the hand, however the if I keep the handles on it I'm gonna take it to the sander again and flatten out the steel in the handle.

Did you want additional pictures of the sheath or the 11?

the scales...was wondering how they looked from above, and how they went around in relation to the bottle opener. I dont think Ive seen anyone do that mod yet LOL so u got firsties!

if u scalloped the middle of scales a bit, u could move it lower and forward a bit, perhaps cover all the tang holes that way. I made a rough example of what I mean

I have been trying to decide flatten the tang or scallop the handles. I don't get much time to work on ky little projects. I have to be at my parent's house and yada yada yada so...

You think scallop the scales would be better than flatten the tang?

Oh and as a demo of retention on the scabbard....

I would certainly cut on the 9$ scales before cutting on ~38$ knife. But ur free to do as u please, heck...I wouldnt mind seeing some ka-razy metalworked 11! Last time someone did something like that..the Greatness that is the 14 emerged!

I got my 11 for a wicked good deal, it was used and I got it for $15... It is also what sparked my obsession... I have some ideas but I don't have the technical skills or tools to put them into fruition.
