. . . . my dad carried it in WWII when he was on a B-29 crew. It's called a Randall."

Those were the words a good friend of mine uttered right before he handed me this beautiful old Randall knife that his dad had just given him. After beating him senseless for suggesting that I wouldn't know Randall knives, I proceeded to get the story behind this knife.

I'm not familiar with this particular model, but it appears to be in great shape. I asked him if he new the history of the piece and he said, "Let me call my dad and ask him." His dad said that he bought it in San Antonio, TX for $38.00 because everyone on his B-29 crew had one and they were considered to be good luck. I immediately offered to "double his money" but he declined. Darn it! ;)

The blade is 7 3/4" long
OAL = 12 3/4"
.220" Thick

I'm hoping that someone here might be familiar with this particular model and a possible market value?

Here's the blade and sheath:

Here's the sheath maker's name:

Jerry,

You show a Model 1 Randall about 1944-45 vintage. Value $3500.00-$4500.00.

Bob and Rhett,

Thanks for your quick reply. I'll pass this info onto my pal.

Thanks again,

Danbo, You don't want to end up with an odd number do you? ;)

I love Randall's. . . Lots of history and killer designs. . . . Use 'em, collect 'em, you realy can't go wrong either way.

I have my 'poor man's Randall' which is my absolute fave fixed blade for hiking. A Blackjack Classic Blades Model #1-7. Pretty much the spittin' image of this knife.
I would be so jealous except he can't carry his without worrying.. nyah nyah nyah! :D

Anyone know how much $38 dollars would buy in 1944? My guess is it would have been pretty expensive for its time.

Anyone catch that the sheath is designed for edge-up right-handed deployment, which was very common practice for knife-combatives of the day? Gorgeous RMK Jerry, thanks!

You have to be kidding don't you Jerry? You don't know what a Randall #1 is when you see one?
Jerry Busse of Busse knives right? THE Busse knives.......
You ARE pulling my leg aren't you?
Z.

Zforce, uh, yeah, he was...:p

Mel

p.s. Parker, yer new RMK is on the way, and will prolly be there by the time you read this...:)

Bob Bowie,
Thanks for posting that informative calculator, believe it or not, I actually have a real academic use for that kind of information. To return to the topic, MP or anyone else for that matter, do you know how many Model 1's were made during WW2. Also, was RMK producing other models during that conflict, or did his other models evolve after the war?
