Well, I went ahead and did it. Just ordered some Damasteel. I'll be dreaming night marish eposodes of screwed up grinds for a week. Its too late for counseling but all prayers are welcome, please.

Roger you could make tree stumps for a liven and send that stuff to me.. I'll make Damadust out of it :D

We're with ya buddy. Just think how much it hurts to screw up the grinds on damascus you made!

Roger, I will say little prayer for you. Maybe coming from someone who has messed up so many times, the man upstairs will be sympathetic and keep you safe.

Marking out can save you a bit sometimes. A mate of mine makea a point of cutting billets in half when we make one togetther. We always cut across the billet at an angle so that the points overlape so each blade can be just a little longer than if the bar is cut at 90 degrees.

I just finished a kitchen knife out of a piece of Damasteel. My advice is don't work out how much $ ends up as dust on your floor. But man is it a nice piece of steel though.

You can do it, Roger! Just put the ol' Roger to it, it will be another great one! You have nerves of steel anyhow, from some of the rare and high $$$$ stuff you have worked with.

Amen, to that one.

Thanks all !!!

I agonized for days whether to get their new TNT pattern or the 5 Twist. I went with the 5 Twist because I thought I liked it better. I also went ahead and ordered some RWL-34.

Some advise though please. I ordered the Damasteel for a particular knife I want it for but now I'm wondering if the damascus will make this knife too busy. Take a look at this link that Wild Rose provided me and see if you think it would be too busy using damascus: http://www.knifeart.com/bloodmyknifo.html

There is a lot going on with the handle and maybe damascus will push it too hard. I don't know. The only other thing I might change on this style is the pommel design.

Thanks again.

I think the damascus will bal it out some Myself.
that one IMHO,, she's handle heavy in art right now
but I like bizzzzy :)

Whether it's too busy or not would depend on the customers taste but you can control the busyness by the amount of etching. It might be a good idea to take photos at different etching times for reference. Is it the practice of smihs in general to go for maximum contrast ?

I think it would work fine if you change the handle colors to something a little less "bright" to balance out the greyness of the damascus.

Most of the time I don't know what I'm talking about though, so it will probably look gorgeous!

Keep us updated. :D

OK,, is this Busy? though the color aren't there.

Those don't look busy at all -- what's the handle material?

No, I like that combo. I see some temper lines too. Very good !!

Yeah, I think I'll stick with the damascus for this one.
