Yes that's right I blame all of you for posting up such nice work and putting the bug in the back of my brain to get started on some leather sheaths for my work. I was just fine with kydex but then something kept nagging at me and it didn't help that I kept coming back to this area and all the WIP and tutorial threads just worked to compound the problem!

So anyway here is the sheath that I did up for a recent hidden tang knife I completed. Now I have yet another aspect of knifemaking to work on to keep the interest and my skills sharp. Thanks for sharing your information so freely everyone!

Hopefully I fixed it above. Apparently the image hosting site I am using I had set to Auto delete the image after 24 hours. These pictures can be finicky

That looks really good! What aspects could ya have done better?

On the backside the stitching wandered a bit from the groove I realized I should have been lining up long ways with the punches instead of perpendicular. Also I didn't realize how easy it was to mark the face of the piece with some errant debris on my board so there are a few light Mark's but they will be hidden with a little use. I would like to work out a better way to slick down the fibers of the flesh side to keep from getting any fuzzies from poking up. But I am happy with how it fits and has great renttion just some things to work towards as I figure out my process with the tools I have at my disposal

On the fuzzies, what edge rubbing compound if any are you using? Put some on that roughout part that will be exposed and slick it firmly with a smooth piece of hardwood or a specialized tool called a slicker, usually made of tempered glass with rounded edges. This can be done with water too but its better with a compound.

To prevent stray marks, I will often use a piece of scrap leather under my project and between it and the cutting board. Skidmore's, a leather conditioner, is the best thing I've found for removing small little scratches and abrasions. Just a tiny amount rubbed on with a finger tip on a scratch or an abrasion will make ya go hmmm.

Thanks for the information. I was just using water and some hardwood along with a piece of anter I had sanded up to 1000 grit to smooth it out. Where I live (Kamloops B.C.) There is a feed and tack supply business that carries leather working tools and supplies I will see what they have on hand and then may order something up. They get most of their supplies from tandy but since the nearest tandy is a 4 hr drive it's handy to be able to drive 10 minutes and pick up supplies in person.

Look for Gum Tragacanth from Tandy.
