Finally decided to get a CV Peanut after seeing both their pictures. Couldn't take it anymore. ;)
I have Case peanuts, but I keep those displayed so thisone will definitely be a user. I am more for bigger knives so hopefully I will get used to carrying something much smaller than I usually do. It should be coming Tuesday so I'll post some pictures then

I would like to apologize in advance for being an enabler, truth be told a year ago I would never have carried the nut, being a outdoorsman I always liked bigger slipjoints, I had some smaller knives but I always felt they were dainty. I receive the peanut as a Christmas gift from my daughter, via my wife ( daughter was less than a month old at the time), the sentiment hit me and I said I will always carry it the rest of my life. Well it's never left my pocket and I still pair it with other knives, but it's the nut that gets used the most. In the beginning it seemed small, because I was so use to carrying these

for work and play, but now the peanut seems bigger, I never doubt it anymore, it has become my favorite fishing knife, it cuts through fishing line like a lightsaber, and guts crappies like a champ, I've been amazed when I carve peach pits with its thin blades, I do a lot of scraping with the pen blade to smooth out the pit and it remains shaving sharp, no chips or rolling of the blade. I hope you are happy with your purchase, I've been tempted to try a camping trip with only the peanut, but not that brave yet, it's a nice compliment to a larger knife. Don't be afraid of using it it can handle a lot more than you think.

Stich, your post mirrors my feelings on the peanut. I once upon a time thought they were way to small to be of any use to an outdoorsman If my own father had not carried a peanut, chances are I would never have given them a chance. But when for some reason I did carry one for a while, I got converted. Sneaky little sons of...

Now my old Buck 301 feels like a brick to me, and my old Wenger SI feels like a tank. But they don't open a FedEx or UPS box any better, or cut fishing line, or twine, or whatever, any better than a good sharp peanut. I leave the house with a nice sharp peanut in my pocket and a Victorinox classic on my keys, and I haven't been caught short yet. If I go play the sportsman with a fishing pole or get the makings for a Brunswick stew with a Marlin .22 rifle, or just going hiking in the woods with my better half, there's a 4 inch sheath knife that handles my rougher jobs. But for 99.9% of what I run into, the peanut does just fine.

Vanguard, you may become a new convert! Just drop it in your pocket and don't carry another knife for a week. See what happens.

Carl.

Just logged on a few minutes ago after being away all day, and this is the second thread I have read that mentions me as an enabler. I'm so new at this, I don't see how I can be blamed!

Seriously, I hope you like carrying it. I didn't think I would like something that small, having been accustomed to barlows and 91mm Swiss Army knives. But it began an appreciation for smaller knives (as you already know).

It is a very handy little cutting tool.

I happen to think it is pleasing aesthetically as well.

This one was taken before any patina developed on the blades, but it is one of my favorite peanut pictures.

Gummint knife restrictions being what they are, a peanut fits the bill on all counts. My CV peanut rode in my pocket for almost a year. That was the primary reason for getting one after I saw Carl's knife. I now have three. They are addictive, and tend to multiply. I have hamhock hands, and I could not imagine how useful such a small knife could be.

Embarassing to tell about the knife, but I am a big guy, and summers in MD can be brutal. Riding around in a fat guys pocket can be tough. My CV chestnut bone peanut looks like someone poured battery acid on it, but the edge is still clean and sharp. I got a SS brown delrin peanut on my birthday this year, and got an amber bone SS peanut in a trade a couple weeks ago on this forum (thanks JD). Between my amber bone peanut and my swayback gent, I am pretty much covered. Although my old Remington two blade jack kicked them both out of the pocket. Hobbling around the house on a bum leg deserves only the best of EDC's :foot::D.

This thread was a big decider for me: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-the-peanut-members?highlight=cult+the+peanut
Jacktrades story about getting the cv peanut put me in a frenzy to go ahead and get one! I didn't give up the other bigger knives, just added the peanut to another pocket and I'm trying to work it in more. It's great when you don't want to pull out something like a SOG trident with it's assisted opening scaring regular people!

Well when I'm talking about bigger knives, I don't mean tacticals. Just larger slipjoints like trappers and jacks.
