So I was out and about today and there's this pretty awesome apothecary here in Chicago, so I decided to pick up some blades.

I went in for this:merz1.jpg

and left with this:merz2.jpg

I bought the feather razor, the hand thrown Sara Bonnyman moss scuttle in slate, the stand for my Muhle r89, J&E atkinsons I Colonialli soap, pine tar soap and blades, but they threw in a bunch of samples including the Captains choice bay rum aftershave (I think it is a local Chicago brand, though they have a website), Kell's original soaps, and various trumpers cream and skin food samples. What's the next step in this addiction? Thank you all for being active members in this great community!

p.s. I'm really excited about getting to try out that scuttle!

Good to see I wasn't the only one out shopping today.

I spent a good hour and a half searching one of the local antique stores today and found a five inch Revere bowl in pewter, made in USA...full of tarnish....for 16.00 out the door. Brought it home, polished it, sanitized it, and tested it for lathering.

Took absolutely no time to get a ton of beard busting lather whipped up with a Tweezerman brush and cheap VDH soap. Being pewter, it holds the heat well.

I was on the verge of ordering one.....for much more money and I doubt it was made in USA. For me, finding things locally is a bit of a challenge but worth the hunt.

Where is this apothecary? It is very hard to find brick and mortar places to buy good quality shaving stuff. I will be in the Chicago area in July.

Bumppo, I sent you a visitor message as well as an email. It is a wonderful brick and mortar store, but as they also have a website, I erred on the side of caution about posting in the thread. You won't be disappointed.

Holy Toledo....my wife would have made me sleep on the couch for that. Great looking gear though.

Heh, I hear that. Fortunately, I'm not married so there's little my girlfriend can say in the matter. She's actually somewhat to blame as she bought me my first quality straight edge as well as my first DE.

you blame use at Blade forums for that???

I will advise you sir to never go near here straightrazorplace.com

It will be worse for this stuff...much worse, try doubling what you have there

Yeah, I've been there, I think I've just had the good sense not to register an account and be an active participating member ;)

............though that may change.

I cut myself off, I am still on there from time to time though. mainly showing off razors I find or asking questions about said razors (mainly age and can it be fixed...though now I can tell if it can be fixed or not)
