I was so impressed with my cold steel holdout 2 with XHP and coyote brown g10 that I proceeded to buy an ak47 OD green, voyager XL, Rajah 2, and a mini ak47. Was about to buy a ZT0301 but I saw the test that CS put out and it made look further into their lineup. No ZTs for me anymore

Strong knives with great steel in a lightweight package has been the kind of knives I've been looking for, and have found.

Keep up the good work CS.

"5 knives in one week", been there lol. Only 3 of them were old model ultra lock folders. Average price I paid between them was $60. The other two were the XHP Recon 1 Spear and an AUS AK which I gifted. For me, the newer CS purchases are done with temperance (Though, with the new line up, I well understand it can make you lose it.)

An AK and an AK mini? You will soon find out that you didn't need the mini. The handle is too small for most hands and the blade was already perfectly EDC in its base form.

CS is my favorite all around knife company, yet I wouldnt entirely skip out on others.

I'm still waiting for CS to make the perfect knife: The Code 4 Elite - Metal on the clip side, G-10 on the grip side, for perfect extraction. I will never shut up about it, my voice will carry and penetrate the minds of as many as it can until I gather an army to proclaim it with me! Moo hoo ha ha ha!

Dare I say, they should add a Demko Thumbplate to make it waveable from the pocket...

The mini AK is for urban areas in California where 3in is the limit :(. But I agree with you on that code 4, if only we could customize like benchmade offers on their website, I think my perfect knife would be an Ak47 tanto, or a voyager XL DLC with a metal pommel, all with the thumbplate of course! I feel like the wave and the triad go hand in hand as I do not trust liner locks at all

Congrats to your new found love. Been there done that myself as well. In fact i pretty much bought all of the CS Carpenter steel folders in 2015. Some of them i bought multiple, including 2 Recon 1, 3 Lawmans, 2 hold out II & 2 Swift II.

Last week I bought an Outdoorsman Lite, Peace Maker 2, Roach Belly, and Bowie Machete...

Unfortunately cts bd1 is nothing like cts xhp. One is premium steel the other is pretty much bottom barrel steel. I would prefer even aus 8a over it.

Umm, no, BD1 is nowhere CLOSE to bottom barrel steel, it's a slight upgrade to AUS-8. Performance will be very similar with slight advantage in edge retention.

AUS8 is a bottom drawer steel in the 440A class (worse, nearly 440B), BD1 is a 440C class steel, and slightly improved over that. BD1 is superior for knives over AUS8.

I was very impressed when I recieved my code 4. It was almost flawess in fit and finish

Bottom drawer? I guess it depends how you define "bottom drawer."

Are there better steels? Sure. But with minimum, basic care, AUS8 is fine.

If you're lazy, and tend to abuse your blades over long periods of time, maybe you shouldn't buy a knife with AUS8 steel.

I agree, I don't think it's bottom drawer steel, I do however want to buy the Lynn Thompson special Rawles 50/50 voyager XL, but I don't know about that huge survivalblog.org on the blade. Seems like a giant ad

I agree with this! EXCEPT that there is no "perfect knife", of course.

But I have no interest in the Code 4 in it's current form, because of the all aluminum scales. I've had SO MANY otherwise excellent knives that I either packed away or sold because the smooth scales on both sides don't provide sufficient grip, especially when they're cold, or I'm sweaty, or there are rainy or wet conditions under use. So I'm pretty much done with smooth, metal scale knives.

Put G10 on one side of the Code 4, and I'm in! Until then, I'll stick with my American Lawman. Because my AK47 is too big/heavy to carry on a regular basis, and my regular Voyager is not quite big enough.

Yes rje58... You were the honorable mention in my thread from last week: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Inspired-By-Recent-Purchase-and-a-Fellow-User

Our last conversation on another thread is where the inspiration came from, though as you will find, in my link above, this idea was already out there. I feel like if some of us here make some noise, something might happen. This is the "Leading Edge" after all.

I used to strongly prefer all G-10 handle vs all metal one because of the grip and weight, but ever since i got my ZT0801BW, my opinion changed. I sometime would even prefer a full titanium/aluminum(not steel, too heavy) because of how solid it feel. The appeal of all metal handle is just different, like how it gets warm in your hands and comes to life the longer you use it. Also, pure titanium will actually develop a film(or patina) the more you use it. Yes, Ti and Al do react with air and other chemical released by your hand, they just don't corrode like iron as the oxide forms protective layer on the surface, like how chome does for stainless steel.

I think a well executed all metal handle like the ZT0801 can have as much grip as an all G10 one. I wished CS would make the Code 4 handle thicker and mill some pattern to it or do something similar to Kershaw Blur's handle. Another advantage is that metal handle wont chip or fray like G-10/CF when it's subjected to impact.

I agree with metal handles being tricky to get right. I have a few from different brands, and out of all of them.

I find the ZT 0801 and the Cold Steel Code 4 to have the most ergonomic handles.

The Code 4 handle is slippery, but once I got used to it, it has become a favorite.
