"RUIXIN" is the name on the box. The stones are Japanese water stones and it came with 120, 320, 600 and 1500. The frame is better than a Knife Peo in that it uses the suction cup base used with a small vice and I know that is sturdy. The frame work is that ball stuff used on motorcycle accessories and such that will mount to anything and is made of dowelrin plastic that is used for automotive suspension parts.....tough stuff. The angle guide is calibrated to 5 different degrees.

GOOD NEWS: This kit cost me $43 and it looks to be the small Knife Pro. Made in China and so is my prized Spyderco Tenacious.

BAD NEWS...Maybe: The rods look to be polished stainless. The pivot blocks on the Knife Pro were brass slip joints and this KO is all plastic. Maybe that doesn't mater as there is no loading of the rods in operation. A touch of oil for a lifetime?

All in all this looks to be better than I hoped. Stone life is something I wonder about. These are 6 1/4 inch long by 3/4 wide.

I kinda gave up on Edge Pro due to the $400 involved and this was within my budget. Any body have any info....god or bad?

I won't call it an exact knock-off. Schrade has one that looks rather similar to it as well and yet no one is calling Taylor out on it.

Anyway, I own a different version of the Ruixin sharpener without the suction cups and marked angles that cost me about $27. It worked well enough until the adhesive holding one of the stones to the bracket weakened and fell off. Since mine never had the marked angles, it was promptly retired after the adhesive incident but it was decent enough while it lasted.

I've used the China versions. Definitely not the same quality as Edge Pro. But considering the cost difference, I think it's a great way to try sharpening to see if you really want to invest the time and money required to get more precision.

But after trying out multiple no-name, and an Apex, and multiple Sharpmakers with all the optional rods.... I just felt that the effort to achieve the end result I wanted was just too exhausting. Then spent even more money to try just one more...the KME Sharp system. And I fell in love. Faster to set up, faster to get amazing results.

I've owned both the Edge Pro Apex and the Chinese version and the biggest difference between the two was the quality of the stones. The Edge Pro Apex stones are very good while the Chinese stones are mostly junk. If you don't want to spend a lot of money on stones I highly recommend the Congress Tools Moldmasters and/or the Ruixin Pro diamond stones. They only cost around $5ea and are a big improvement over the included stones. One other tip, don't forget to flatten your stones!

i own the edge copy but 1st thing i did was replace the stones that came with this kit,its a pore grade water stone, and i ended up buying new edge pro stones, drill collar and some other small things, but hey! i get some amazing edge's on my higher end knifes, thats the bottom line with this kit! now will last me 50 years!who no's.

Thank you all. Fat, I am on my way to Congress Tool. Thanks.

John, the Congress stones are relatively cheap but they cut slow as hell. You also won't get mirror finish if that's what you're looking for.

I have the real Edge Pro Apex and the Ruixin Pro with the vacuum base. I'll say this: If you don't see differences in materials, tolerances, and edge angles, put on your glasses. The Chinese one is o.k. to see if you are interested. The end result is not equivalent. The rods don't fit nearly as well into the plastic and are held by cheap screws. How long it will last is unknown.

Kinda funny that "RUIXIN" basic sales pitch is... Our knockoff is better than the other knockoffs. :)

I've used almost every type of stone Congress Tools sells and they are pretty much equal to the Boride Abrasives stones that are included with the Edge Pro and a huge upgrade over the stones included with the Chinese knockoffs. The Moldmasters can clog/glaze which will cause them to cut slowly but as long as you use them with water or oil and flatten/dress them often they cut just fine and can achieve a very high degree of sharpness. Of course they aren't as good as Shaptons or Choseras but for the price I don't know of any better stones for the Edge Pro.

I've used both oil and water. Clogging isn't the issue. ADAEE stones cut quicker and leave a better finish but they wear faster. Not ridiculously fast, but faster than the Congress stones. I'm going to try the Chinese diamond stones soon.

By the way, I have low grit ruby stones, moldmasters up to 600 grit, and super soft up go 1000. They do leave a good edge but not any better than the Chinese stones, in my experience. The Chinese stones leave a much better polish, though.
