where can i get a tool to take apart the pivot? i really need to do something with the crappy teflon washers but the pivot has a weird design and requires a specific tool but i don't know what it's called or where to get it.

Teflon washers are fine.

Congrats on your new knife.
Sell the knife, get a different knife, problem solved, street cred restored!!!

i have many knives with teflon washers that work a treat but the ones in this mantis are all wrong. they make a sort of grinding noise and do not have smooth action at all. i need to clean them.

If there is grinding sound or feel, there is grit or gunk in the action. I'd try a good hot soapy wash, blow, and flush out with water displacing lube.....

I don't know much about Mantis knives personally, but I don't think searching for mantis knife on here would yield many positive results. Some of their knives get a bit of a beating, at least that is the impression that I have been left with.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

What model is it? Some of them can use this tool

I looked at the knife in question.

Just to get the job done I would hammer two small nails into a piece of wood the same distance apart as two of the holes on opposite sides of the pivot, then cut the heads off the nails, file them smooth/flat, and use that to turn the screw. I would make sure not to hammer the nails in the same grain line of the wood to prevent the wood from splitting.

Or, I would secure two small nails with their heads cut off into the jaws of a pair of vise-grip pliers and use that.
