I bought the wrong Benchmade (for me)

I recently bought a Benchmade 705. The specifications were just right for my needs. Blade around 3", great steel, G10 handle, and an Axis lock. The handle size and feel are the issue for me however, the handle is too thick for a knife this size and not long enough.
I can not praise the Axis lock enough though, so smooth and easy to operate, it locks up solidly. Must have another one day.
Anyway, I guess I will try to sell this one and find a more suitable handle.
Blade around 3", big handle, any suggestions? (already have a Dodo, CalypsoJr)

If you're happy with the Calypso Jr, take a look at the Centofante III. Slightly larger, but for the money, a terrific knife.

I keep repeating this suggestion, so sorry if its becoming tiresome guys.

I did the same thing and found the 705 to small. :( Traded it for a 722 which is perfect for me. ;) If you don't like the tanto blade look at Benchmades 721,it may be just what you're looking for and you still get the Axis-lock. :D

I recently did the SAME thing...I traded MY 705 (one of 'em) for a 722, that I hope to receive either Tuesday or Wednesday. :).

Centofante III is a nice lockback and a hella nice slicer, comparable to the Calypso. My friend's was nearly as much as a surgical instrument as my former Calypso

721 is a great knife. very solid and with G-10 - very durable. Some of the dimensions on the Benchmades are deceiving - I consider the 705 to be too small for any heavy work - the 721 is perfect IMO and the 940 is nice - but although the blade is longer - its thin and overall the knife feels "small" because of that.

My 721S is my main EDC.

What you need is a 94X series knife. Sleek, slick and with that wonderful Axis lock.

I prefer the 941 variants, but you might like the standard 940.

YMMV

Wow, I can't believe Glockman is his torch for the 7XX series! Your raving is one of the main reasons that I got my own 705, Dann -- though I must agree that it's just too damn little to be of use to me and is about to hit the Exchange forum. I'd suggest the Spyderco Native in S30V; though as an Axis-lock fan, I'm about to go for a 720 in the hope that it's a better fit for me than the too-small 705 or 943.

(I'm probably about to get myself banned, but for a smaller folder I just can't beat my small classic Sebenza.)

Just as a note...Before I traded my 705 for a 722, I did have a solid offer to trade a 720 for my 705 'till I discovered that it has aluminum scales (and I don't like anything but G-10 for scales), so you shouldn't have a problem in trading your 705 for a 720...If that is what you decide to do. (I SURE do wish that there was a "benchmade-for-benchmade" trade forum over at the Benchmade Forums.:D.).

...Man, I can hardly WAIT 'till I receive that 722 !! :)

I'll agree with the other 72X recommendations; it is a solid-feeling knife, but not too large or small. I have large-ish hands and the 721 I tried fit my hand well; just not my pocketbook, at the time. :grumpy:

there is a 721s for $70 NIB for sale right now on the exchange forums. I'm actually debating picking it up as a spare.

Try a Mini Griptilian, either 555 or 556. You will find that they fit your hand much better than the 705.
They are also much easier to open. I find the 705 a bit fiddly to open sometimes.

You will not find anyone with a bad thing to say about a Mini Grip!!

There's no such thing as a wrong knife... it's a nice trading piece, or simply a knife that showed you that you need a different/another knife.

Take a look at the just released Spyderco Paramilitary. 3 3/16" blade with a full-sized handle and light at 3.75oz. If you like the Calypso Jr. chances are that you'll like the paramillie.
