And a shot of just the scales

I stripped the coating off a Benchmade 720 aluminum scales (sacrilege I know)

The reason I stripped the black coating off was twofold.

Firstly - the Butterfly logo was only on one side of the knife - the side I put the clip on. So the clip covered half of the logo and looked terrible.

Secondly - the black coating was going to get scuffed and scratched over time anyway. So I decided to kill two birds with one stone.

I bought the knife with the intention of making it naked.

With the bare aluminum, the scratches and oxidation will change over the years. I can't wait to see how my knife changes as it ages. I left the hardware that was black black on purpose. I like the contrast. It too will wear with age.

I like the way it came out and am very pleased with the results.

What do yo think?

My iPhone pics just don't do it justice.

Much improved! I really don't get all the coatings / paint that look good until you actually use the knife. I know some like the character it gives the knife, but personally I think they just look beat up. I prefer the finishes that are as tough as the knives are supposed to be. Benchmade painted clips are the worst offenders in my opinion. Great knives and certainly I think you get value for their price point, but they aren't really what I would consider an inexpensive knife. For the price point I think their painted pocket clips have embarrassingly low resistance to chipping and or scratching. I try to replace all the painted with clips from other benchmades that aren't painted.

Great Work!
