I broke down & got one...

Hello everyone. I've been into knives since I was a kid. I used to strap on my Dad's pilot survival Camillus from his Naval flying days when I played "Army Man" (I ended up going into a Military Academy & ultimately, LE).

I realized a dream back in '99 & bought an Emerson CQC7, which I used for work, etc, but generally just had a couple knives & that was it. I like & cherish them (I still have the Emerson & a 14 yr. old clipless Gerber folder).

Anyways, I really got the "knife bug" within the last year & have bought & traded knives, gradually moving up to higher & higher quality knives. So, I worked out a trade deal for a Sebenza small Classic Cabote wood inlay last week. I got the knife yesterday & still trying to figure out if I'm going to keep it. I have a couple days to think it over, as there was a delay in shipping the knives to another Forum member.

I will say this about the knife, it is amazing all the "little things" that combine to make this knife. Kind of like: "The sum of parts is greater than the whole" thing. F&F is AWESOME. The feel, look, & yes, the practicality of a $400 knife (No, I didn't have $400 into the knives I traded).

So, 2 questions, but the 1st one is really more a rhetorical one.

1. I want to EDC the knife, not have it as a "Safe Queen", so should I bite the bullet & use it or get another mini-Skirmish (My opinion of a "poor mans Sebbie").

2. I may sound like an idiot here, but how do you use the leather pouch that comes with the knife (If you do at all)? Does it go in fully (Clip & all?), or do you clip the knife to the pouch?

Back in April or so, when I joined this & other knife oriented Forums, I would never have thought to even THINK about owning a Sebbie, much less actually having one in my hands.

Anyways, thanks in advance to your answers.

First, congratulations on your new sebbie.

Second, keep it!

Third, EDC it!

Sebbies are made to be used. I've been carrying my small micarta daily for over two years now, and it just keeps standing up to the abuse that I throw at it. I've been remodeling my house, so I'm always reaching for that knife to do some dubious thing with it. :) Just make sure you take it apart to clean it every once in a while, and of course sharpen it, and all will be well.

I wear my sebbie clipped to the inside of my right front pocket. I never did use the pouch that came with it as I thought it got in the way. If that means the sebbie is going to get some pocket lint on it from time to time, that's ok. I also get insulation, drywall dust, wood shavings, dirt and everything else on it from time to time. As I said, just take it apart and clean it up.

Plenty of people look at the money that the sebenza costs, and they think 'safe queen.' My opinion is that if I'm going to spend that much money on a tool, it better be able to do the job and do it well for the rest of my life. Thus far, I have no reason to think my sebbie isn't going to live up to it's purchase price.

So, for what it's worth, you can't go wrong EDCing a sebbie (unless you're the type of person who loses knives).

I hope this clarifies things for you. :D

Keep it and use it, the more you carry and use them the smoother opening they get.

When I used the push I pushed the knife in clip and all and dropped it in my pocket. It stretched the sheath out and made it loose. My feeling is if you are serious about using a sheath for it, buy a nicer one then the slip pouch CRK sends along.

Thanks, it helps. For the record, no I don't lose my knives (Thankfully).

It's funny, but I don't have a problem spending the extra money for a gun & EDCing that & using it. If I'd just carry over that mentality on the knife, I'd be fine, lol.

Seriously, other than that, I'd be fine.

I say sell or trade it and get a large. You wont regret it.

I like that...but seriously, I got the small because I wanted a knife I'll always carry, not sometimes. While I have some nice, larger knives, the ones I go back to is that magical (For me, anyways) 4" closed size.

Congats on your new Sebbie:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:. I started getting seriously into knives around the same time you did, and seem to be following in your footsteps. Is this typical of a knifenut??? I've been buying and selling as well and quality has been going up with each puchase. Recently I traded for a Kershaw Cyclone TiZDP, and fell in love with the frame lock. Now for the last week or two I've been eyeballing a small Classic Micata Sebe . My problem is that I'm having trouble chosing 3 knives to part with:confused:...How the heck did you do it???

Dave

Yeah, I know what you mean. I parted with some good knives, including my B/M 635 (My poor man's Sebbie). It's not an easy choice & initially, I thought I made a mistake. I don't think I did, though.

Congrats!

I got my Sebbie a couple of weeks ago and wish I had gotten it sooner. It's my new EDC from now until it wears out. I know, I have said this before about other knives, but somehow it is more likely to happen with the Sebbie.

I'm currently saving funds for the purchase of a large model, hopefully around Christmas.

1. I've carried a small standard Sebbie for over a year now and I can't imagine replacing it with anything else . . . except the ebony inlaid small Sebbie I carry on weekends. I have a large one too but only carry that in the field; it is just too big for EDC in an urban environment. In other words, carry it!

2. I can't see any easy way to use the leather pouch except to possibly remove the clip and use it to keep other pocket contents out of your knife.

It truly is a remarkable knife, isn't it?

You should definitely use the Sebenza as an EDC. That's what it's meant for. I laugh when I see all the photos of Sebenzas that are obviously never used. I guess merely collecting knives is rewarding for some people, but I like to actually use my knives. I've been carrying a small Sebenza for at least 5 years now. I resharpen it from time to time so the blade definitely looks used, and the titanium has small scratches here and there and has taken on a nice burnished look which I think actually looks quite nice. It looks like it was meant to look.
Are the leather pouches included with the Sebenzas now? When I bought mine, they were sold seperately. I used a leather pouch for awhile. But I have long since switched to carrying it clipped to the inside of my pocket. That works best for me. If you're going to use the pouch I'd recommend removing the clip.

Congrats on the new blade, it's a beauty.

Use it, I have a large regular on my waistband right now. The sebenza is a perfect EDC IMO...

Thank you for the comments. I've only had it a week & was honestly unsure if I was going to keep it. I've decided to & finally carried it yesterday, although it was in the pocket sheath. I don't think I'll continue carrying it that way, though. I might as well have a "pocket" knife w/o a clip if I didthat.

As to the leather pouch coming with Sebs, it's my understanding that they come with the "enhanced" & inlay models, but not not the standard ones (Plain finish).

I would encourage you to use it.

I push mine into the leather clip and all. After a week, it will be formed to it. It protects it in the pocket with the keys and other junk. I work in a community mental health center, so I carry in the pocket. Sometime I will clip it on the pocket, but only if I am not going to spend a lot of time in the admin area (which is tough as I am an admin type person now)

exact reason why i got a small! I am going to carry it everyday!

Anyway, the leather pouch comes in handy when im dressed up (I like to carry it in the back pocket) ... also this way i wont have to worry about ruining any leather car seats if the front pockets arent the right place for the knife at the time being.
