I just got my Chiruwa Ang Khola in the mail today and took a swing at a bush. The knife wasn't sharp enough to cut the bush so I took a swing at a big branch and the thing broke in half! It broke right along the Cho from the first hit! I have a digital camera that should be working so if you want pictures you can have them Uncle Bill. So do I mail this back to Nevada and get two new ones for free as advertised?

That's the second one in two days. Send it back and I'll send you a couple that won't break but maybe not chiruwas. They are doing something wrong with that style but I don't know what.

Something is very wrong in the universe......

I'm supposed to be a scientist, and not superstitious, but it never hurts to look over your shoulder, and.....

Well, at least I have a villager, for when the apocalypse comes

Uncle Bill, my second choice of knife after the Chiruwa was the 18in WWII. I was considering buying this knife eventually anyways so I'm not at all unhappy with having it instead. I'm going to be generous and give my brother the bonus knife and he would really like some chopping power more than anything else so his choice is an 18in Ang Khola. We both really like the look of the horn handle so if it is at all possible we would prefer horn, if not then no big deal. I can send the knife back to you tomarrow. Thanks alot, Andrew Hodgkins

Do you recall what the kami mark was - half moon, sun, nepali flag - it would've been pretty close to the handle. If not, don't sweat it.

I seem to recall seeing something similar to a trident near the base of the blade.

Skeletor,
Sorry to hear of your bad luck, but it illustrates a point that Uncle Bill clearly impressed on me prior to deploying to Afghanistan. Whatever khukuri you wind up with, test it, and test it well, before you carry it some place where your life might depend on it. The odds of breaking an HI khukuri are about the same as getting struck by lightning, but people do get sometimes get struck.

It ain't even Daesin.

No, but the Maoists seem to be out again. Maybe somebody's not concentrating with the teapot.

What a year, and there's still a good bit left to get through.

That's how I'm looking at it. And as soon as the new knives come in they are getting tested on the same tree. I am planning on taking a Khukuri into battle one day, maybe the 18in WW2 I'm probably getting will be better for it. And one of those quick-draw sheaths too :D

Dang. We've been getting thunderstorms for the past 4 days, and more forecast all week. Maybe I should cancel my plans to run through the raindrops waving a 30" Kobra above my head. Whaddya think the chances are of breaking a khuk AND getting struck by lightning in the same week?

WOW! I've never heared of an HI Khukuri breaking like that before. Am glad no one was hurt when it broke.

The massive weight of the blade brought it right to the ground, it didn't go too far. I'm just glad I found out about it now.

First blade failures ever and both chiruwas. I've got a theory that the full tang is serving as a heat sink and they are cutting the cho when the metal is too cool causing some invisible fractures. That full tang will soak up the heat a lot quicker than the tapered tang and I don't think they are compensating. ALWAYS give any knife a good testing in your own back yard before you take it into the field. Stuff happens.

That makes sense Bill. As I said and as you will see, the break passed right through the cho. Where did that other knife break?
