I built a knife shelf

I decided I needed a place to put my knifes all in one place. I've kept them up to now in boxes, drawers, different rooms and locations. I didn't want to display them for everyone, just wanted easy access and to be able to see my collection when deciding what knife to carry. So this is what I came up with. It took about an hour, I had all the stuff at home to build it.

It works for me

Good job! I just might adopt a variation of this.

It'll beat leaving all my EDC choices on the book shelves by the front door, so my wife can glance at them, shake her head and sigh every day. :D

Added: a suggested mod would be to get full-extension drawer glides, so the entire tray can be pulled out (no reaching under the shelf in back).

Very nice. Simple, functional, and not expensive to build. Capt Morgan part of your EDC setup? :D

Looks great, but I'm warnin' ya - knife collecting is addictive and you'll need more drawers real soon. By the time I'd finished my 7 drawer cabinet I had enough knives to fill it

What sort of tracks did you use for the sliding part?

I have a shelf very similar to his and I used kitchen drawer slides, usually will fit a 3/4'' thick piece of wood or plywood. Get various depths depending on how deep your shelf is.

I Love that. That How I keep Mine too. But only locked up too.

Is the Jug Of Whiskey for Armageddon?
It Kind Of looks Like you can take the clothes and Knives and Whiskey and Put it all in that bag there, in 3 seconds? Good idea. They call that "Bug out bag" In English? HAHA good idea for everyone.

A hell of an idea! The shelf would be easy enough to hide with a flap of material.

Do I also see a class ring, a boy scout "scout motto/scout law" coin, and a rosary?

Nice work, much better than my shoe box.

The track is from a accordion door. I was going to use 2 pieces of 1"X3/4" when I saw the door track laying around and said this is perfect.

And yes its a class ring, rosary and a prayer coin.

I still have room for a few more knives and will have to box some up when I fill it up. I'm out of work so not buying any now so this should be good for a while.

Thanks for looking

That's a cool-looking shelf, but...

You must have a lot of faith in your home's security system, to leave your knives out in the open like that.

Well, let's keep this in perspective. We're not talking about handguns, or a collection of knives worth thousands of dollars -- the danger and the expense are not so great that these need to be kept under lock and key, particularly on a roll-away shelf in a closet.

Most of us have a DVD player and a computer "out in the open" like that, which together are worth more than this.

That's a good point Phil. But I still cringe though thinking of the time when a small group of my pocketknives were stolen during a burglary. They weren't expensive, they weren't heirlooms, just a dozen common off-the-shelf factory knives. It still took twelve years to find identical replacements for each one. :(

I can't speak for the OP's emotional involvement with his knives, but I am a lot more attached to my knives than to my home electronics. Someone steals my television, I can go to the store and buy a new one today, and it'd be bigger and better than my old one. ;)

I'm not suggesting a 600lb firesafe, only to consider keeping the collection more concealed.

If I had thought about it I could have figured a way to hide the shelf, that would have been cool. But I didn't and not really worried about someone breaking in and stealing my knives. Hopefully the only problem I have is running out of room.

Thanks for all your comments, have a great weekend!
