I have gotten my heat treat oven (mostly) finished. Here is a link to pictures and drawings: http://chucktilbury.com/pages/gallery.php?dir24=/Heat+Treat+Oven

The oven appears to work. It heats from 85F to 1450F is 40 minutes flat. It also appears to hold the temp within +/- 3F or so. All-in-all, I am pretty happy with it.

I am still having a little trouble figuring out the controller. It is an Auber Instruments SY-2352P. Here is a link to it: http://www.auberins.com/index.php?m...s_id=4&zenid=eb016020638bff121e991fc836fd7546

The trouble I am having is that I cannot seem to figure out how to get it to go into manual mode. I finally got it to heat by programming it to heat to 1450F for 2000 minutes and the next temp (for ramping) is 1450F and bla bla bla. There does not appear to be a way to set and hold an arbitrary temp.

I am sure that I am just not doing it right. If anyone has some insight into it, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,
Chuck Tilbury

I move it to a step after the end of my program steps and make one 1 minute step to ramp from 100f to whatever temp I want it at then a step at whatever temp I want and tell it to hold that for 2000 minutes. If you just add a step for 2000 minutes at whatever temp, it will take 2000 minutes to get there. I have a single temp PID for operations that do not need timed ramp cycles (a 612 series) and the Auber ramping PID for burnout cycles which have timed ramp and hold requirements

Looks great. How did you cut the recess for the coils?

Nice job. Similar to mine, except my door hinges sideways. I used 220v and 50' of 14 gauge, for a bit over 20 amps or 4500 amps, so mine hits 1500 in about 12 minutes. I had a couple failures at the connection of the Kanthal to the terminals until I moved that connection to the outside of the oven.

Aubers instructions are difficult to say the least. I don't have a programmable yet, so no help there.

Nice work :-). The end of page 2, beginning of page 3 (of the first manual) tells how to switch from auto/ programmed mode to manual mode, and how to adjust up and down.
