I came up with an idea for a new righty and lefty

I was just thinking they dont make many lefty liner locks. So a knife company should make a liner lock on both sides of the handles and put a screw or something like it so instead of both of the liners lock the blade you can screw one side and then its a regular liner lock and you could do it on both sides. So it would be a universal liner lock. What do you people think on that idea. it would be an interesting design.

Well as a leftie, i never had problems with the liner lock. It was, taht most companies avoid the drilling of three more holes to switch the clip. That´s all for me.

Take note that most of the linerlocks had the blade tangs rounded (concaved? is that a proper word? :D) to the one side.
Linerlock with straight tang (and that's the only possibility to make your idea alive & functioning) will slip and cut off your fingers, or will wear in abnormal way.
Hope you get what I mean? :D

Generally speaking - IMHO it won't work :foot:

The tang of the blade is ground at an angle to self adjust over time.

Why even go to all the trouble and finicky little parts for an axis lock? Use a backlock instead. Much cleaner design.

An ambidextrous liner lock might work. Make the blade tang twice as thick and bevel it on both sides. :)

The Vic OH Trekker is a lefty liner lock.

I'm a righty and have no problems using it with my index finger. I think the key is that it sticks out from the frame rather than being recessed or only having one side with a cutout.

I did at one point have an idea for a dual liner lock design. Basically the same as above but without the screw in option. I figured it'd be more secure and less likely to fail.

But then I thought about the tang shape and how the hell would you release it....

Interesting idea though. My question is would you have to take the knife apart to undo it and how would the tang be shaped?

Why bother? I am left-handed and have no problem at all closing a standard liner lock knife with my left hand only.

yeah, but if you have the non-reversible pocket clip that most liner locks do then left pocket carry makes the knife come out bass-ackward ;)

been there, done that. never again.

get yourself a proper left-handed liner lock and you'll never settle for a "tighty-righty" again :p
