I can finally carry my Manix

I really like my Spyderco Manix but I found is uncomfortable to carry. It's large and somewhat heavy. Some of the reasons I like it but also what makes it a difficult "pocket knife".

I've seen custom sheaths available for them on E-bay but I didn't really like the verical carry etc. I talked to the leathersmith and ask him to "cant" the knife forward and to increase the amount of knife sticking out the top.

I just got it today and it is GREAT. I even have room for another folder in my pocket and my cell phone. I can draw the knife and open it much faster then if it was in my pocket.

I see these kind of sheaths all the time and nearly all of them look great. However, nearly all of them are also molded around a folder's pocket clip. What the heck is the point of leaving a pocket clip on a knife to be put in a sheath? Seems to me that the clip is the first thing I'd ditch if I wanted a leather sheath for one of my folders. Better retention is a lame excuse because most folders have enough contours on their own to be held in the leather quite well.

The pocket clip does help retention somewhat. Different amounts for different knives. As far as getting rid of it, I didn't want to. It gives me more versatility if I do want carry it in my pocket or clip it to my back pack.

Get yours made anyway you want but the one in my picture is exactly what I wanted.

I believe it was made by Vess leathers. He advertises on Ebay, but has a web-presence. He's in Canada.

Try carrying it between your belt and your waistband. Much more comfortable and practical. :D

That is correct. I also may pick one up for my Spderco Military with the same mods I had done one the Manix sheath. I may even have get a Harsey T3 or have a sheath made for my SOG Elite 2. It's almost like carrying a fixed blade without the obvious size problems that come from having a 12 inch knife dangling from one's belt.

Thanks for sharing bladeprince! I have never handled a manix but am thinking of getting one. I have one coming to me via passaround (thanks Frank!) and am interested in carrying ideas. Your post gives me another option to consider.

Thanks again.

I don't get it. How do I do that? It would need a different sheath design or I'd have to carry it on my left side (which I can't/don't want to do). Am I missing something?

Bladeprince's sheath does not appear to allow for IWB carry. In order to do this, it would need an extended loop of some kind or another contrivance. Even if he reverses it to be wedged between his belt and pants, it would be backwards(left-handed) to him. His sheath is designed to sit where it does on the outside right side, and looks like it works very well in that capacity.

When you speak of carrying the folder IWB, which position? For most longer (longer than 3-3.5 inches closed) folders I've found behind the hip (4-5'o'clock analog for RH) seems best... anything else I prefer canted in front of my hip.

Attach the clip to your belt clip side out with the knife between your belt and your waistband. It's that simple!

Wouldn't that be Outside the Waist Band?

TKC, does the Manix carry well IWB without a holster?

I personally would never carry a knife like that. Either in my pocket on in a sheath. I also have a few neck kives but they are small, of course.

Regard

i have been carrying my manix IWB when i am not carrying my Glock. It carries the best that way IMO. thanks for the advice TKC.
