I have a RMD. I let a friend borrow it to make asheath for it and Iamnot sure if he put a different grind on it or not. I have spent the laste 4 days working on it and it still will not shave. It will hardly even cut paper. I am using both a sharpmaker and an edge pro apex(I do not like that thing). Now to be honest, I do not like sharpening knives. I just want them to be sharp and able to maintain them. I have no idea if its a convex, hollow ground, v grind, s grind, t grind, chissel grind, scandi grind or whatever. Has anyone else had a hard time getting their RMD to shave???

I know I am basicaly bitching but right now the knife and the damn apex are about to go into the ocean..

awesome thank you it will be in the mail tuesday. What is the address? Do I needan RA number?

I uses stones to sharpen all of my knives and occasionally use sharpening rods.
It has been posted here before but it really helps if you take a black sharpie or other marker and just color the edge with the black marker. Next lay the blade on the stone not too low just picture about 2 or 3 quarters under the blade and then draw it downward towards you. Once you have drawn it across the stone a few times you can see if you are even touching the edge or if you are too high or too low by the amount of black marker you removed, adjust accordingly.
Using the sharpening system you have it should be the same. I also use two or three different stones same as your sharpening system has. Course if there are bad dings or if reprofiling, medium if getting dull and then fine for final touchup/polishing to shaving sharp.
A friend of mine told me to try sharpening in circles instead of drawing it across and I have to say SR101 responds VERY well to circle sharpening, small circles about quarter or 1/2 dollar size, you do get swirling on the edge but it is even and the method gets it wicked sharp. Also make sure to always use the whole stone when drawing your knife across it, I relate it to fishing the longer your bait is in the water the more fish you will catch, same for the knife on the stone the more stone you drag across the shaper it will get.
*Dont press down like a hulk either light to medium pressure and even strokes, count your strokes and keep it consistent for both sides...dont forget to clean and lube the stones with some type of oil.
Good luck

Thanks for the help. I am using a sharpie and am taking off the mark. But after say and hour or so it just doesnot seem to get any sharper. I have managed to get all my other knives shaving sharp on my sharp maker but not this thing. And the edge pro is not helping at all. Although on that system I only have the 180-220 stones.
