Because my Medium Stockman is now sharp!. I have almost no sharpening skills, especially with freehand and stones, barely got a decent edge. Yesterday, my dad got a Lansky Crock Stick, and it is almost idiot-proof, and I was able to get that knife pretty dang sharp! Sharp enough to use for EDC and to whittle with.
For those of you who don't know the history of me and this knife, it was the first knife I got, when I was eight. I carried it on many childhood adventures around the apartment complex we lived in at the time. I only recently re-found it, and it still had the factory edge. However, for some reason or another, the sheepsfoot blade, which I use the most, got dull quickly, and I haven't really used it for much since.
But now, it is sharp again, and I am happy. I think it will be used as my third EDC knife for a while now, behind my Vic Explorer (for the tools) and my main cutting knife, my new Al Mar Eagle Talon (First production, 072 of 200)
Okay. Ramble off. I may not be able to freehand sharpen, like some of the guys here, but for $35 I can get a knife pretty sharp, building independence. It will also probably save me money, being able to keep my knives sharp.

Peace,
Preston

As long as ya can get it sharp and keep usin it, doesn't matter what method you use to get there IMHO...

I "found" an old Mora sheath knife a few years back that I had as a kid, that I used and obviously attempted to sharpen ..
Seems my sharpening skills weren't to great in my younger years and I was probably to embarassed to show my grandad and ask him to help me ( he could put an edge on air)... Anyway it was real satisfying to put a good edge back on the knife again and be able to use it again... Enjoy your long lost friend.

Not stupid at all, Jim.

By the way, as Mike said above, as long as you can get it sharp it doesn't really matter.

I freehand for the most part, but as my friend Neeman recently caused me to realize, I can get a much more acute edge more quickly on a very dull knife when utilizing my DMT Diafolds in conjunction with a GATCO clamp (jig).

It's all good.
