Finished the chores around the house and decided to go get something to eat. Hit the thrift store first, because maybe I'll find something to read while eating. (I buy a lot of books at thrift shops.) Walk out with this 18" ceramic platter that's going to make a cheap birdbath in the garden.

It's going to need a stand. Look it up online; thanks to Amazon. But there's this place that sells a lot of bird stuff just a couple miles away, not cheap, but a lot faster than waiting on the mail and if the price is right... But no, they don't have just a stand. But then I remember there's an architectural salvage place just a short drive up the road; maybe I can find something there?

Well, I do, but it's not a stand but a really nice solid copper outdoor light. And I need one for the back/side door. And best, it's made in France, not China. Score! But it doesn't have the mounting hardware.

So, off to the Mom & Pop hardware place that carries all the stuff you can't get at Home Depot. I spend half an hour going thru the nuts and bolts and other trays and put the kit together. Hah. And it's going to need a light bulb so down to that isle...

But since I'm going to kill the power back to that corner of the house I might as well get the stuff to put in an outdoor box where I took out another floodlight. And the Christmas stuff is on sale at 50-70% off, so might as well plan for next year.

Back in the car I remember I need trash bags. Well I'm not going to turn around, so I'll just hit the supermarket. A full cart load of stuff there, and hey, it's getting dark. And I haven't eaten all day. So there's the whole afternoon shot, three more projects on the list, and I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow so I can actually get something finished...

Agreed! I hope the rain held off for those projects, too. I will say that, since relocating to a very much smaller space, I have haunted two of the busiest places to find solid value - the Habitat ReStore and the Re-use (free) building at the transfer station as well as the thrift stores. Mostly seeking storage pieces ... solid wood where possible ... and I've been lucky. At least three pieces are hand crafted solid wood and, although not matching, are beautiful finds and very useful. They just fit into small spaces and do the job of hiding away and organizing. Yes, then there is always the extra work and new projects that stem from the 'finds' - in my case it is trailering the big items replaced out to the ReStore and Re-Use building. There is always something in the works.

No, you are not the only one :D Those who have no projects in the works to look forward to are the mystery to me.

Nope, you aren't the only one. But I would have eaten first. Priorities....
