I kick myself now. Actually let me begin by saying "Hi everyone". I'm new to the forum, but a long time collector.....anyways, to get with the story. I went into Boston to pick my wife up from work 10 or so years ago.Anyways, she wasn't ready,So I meandered down to the corner antique store. I was looking in a small wooden bucket when I saw a shiny bolster.I picked it up and it looked it over. An old barlow I said to myself because of the long bolster.Steel, as were the liners.I knew it was old.The handles were in poor shape. They looked like petrified leather.(It was actually bone or stag). I asked the guy how much and he said 5 bucks. All I had was three so he said OK. I let the wife drive home and I went about checking out my latest find. I opened the blade and it was a little rusty. I found I could actually wipe a lot of the rust off with my fingers it was so fine. I managed to see a name on the blade....Barlow.Heart pounding. When I got home I cleaned it up,got out levines guide.Along with barlow, It had a touch mark and scimitar.Razor style blade, which I thought was damascus, but later found out that he probably refolded the blade over and repounded it out.If I remember, the guide said it was Samual Barlow of Neepsend.Late 1700's? Anyways, stupid me traded it at a northeast show for a custom folder. They were valued about the same, but not any more.I hope its in a museum for everyone to see,or if you have it, post a pic of it to bring back memories for me.I forget the guys name with whom I traded, but he and his wife were well known in the knife community at the time.No hard feelings.
