I keep hearing about the comradery and generosity amongst the people that frequent the traditional part of blade forums, but i NEVER would have thought in a million years that i'd be part of it. I will describe exactly what happened, but in short, a knife of great personal value to me got stolen, and the most generous thoughtful person ever just sent me a new one, of the same sort.

I still cant believe it...i have been running around all day today like a maniac, people keep asking whats wrong with me :p

Many of you know him, Jim, aka Boggs, one of the most humble person\collector\knife nut, sent me a replacement great eastern #25 jack:thumbup:

How it happened:

Not too long ago I finished my schooling, and got my degree. The term was several months long, but only in the last week of that term, a guy i had seen several times but never spoken to approached me and asked me about my knife (i always have one in class, to use as a worry stone or clean my nails while the professor lectures). He seemed interested so i let him see it and told him how it was the only knife (or anything to be frank) that anyone had ever gifted me. A GEC #25 single blade. Anyway, it was the last day of school, a crisp sunny day, and i was rushing to fill in the last sentence on my exam, when the instructor called "times up". I packed up my stuff and set off to my car to go home. He caught up to me and we blabbered about the exam. The whole way there he kept asking to hang out sometime blah blah, and we swapped numbers. He was very sociable. All of a sudden he bumped into me, which was nothing out of the ordinary, but it was at this exact point that his demeanor did a whole 180. I didnt give it any thought, just that it was weird. All this time he wanted to meet up and hang out, but all of a sudden he was in the biggest hurry ever to get to his car and go home. So i said i understand, stuff happens, and we parted ways.
I got home, went to the kitchen to make food, reached in my watch pocket for my knife and my gut got that "roller-coaster" feeling. Where my knife had always been was now a void. It automatically hit me, and i had realized what happened.
This knife was gifted to me by a person that was like me struggling with money to pay for school, and simultaneously working full time. Thats what made it so painful. I havent had the heart to tell him yet. Losing a knife sucks but i could make due losing 20 without the same repercussion as this one.

Anyway, i had searched the web for a long time trying to find the same kind, but they were short runs and all of them are gone, so in desperation i asked Jim if he happened to have one for sale. He offered to give me it. One of the most generous events to date in my life.

I will post pics when i receive it; at the moment it feels like i've been reunited with a long lost friend.

Thanks Jim.

Now go find the DB and cut him with the new knife. That's super nice btw way to represent Jim!!

shrapen1, I too have just received a knife from Jim, he is obviously one hang of a good guy, a very thoughtfull one at that!

You cant go and accuse this s.o.b now-its way too late-that would have to have been done then and there when he bumped into you, but....what I would do is go up to this person, and explain that the knife he was so interested in was stolen, and explain how only such a dirty p.o.s would stoop to something so low-and that it will catch up to the thief in the end - then walk away from him and never utter a word to him again-even if he comes up to you.
What Jim has done is the most awesome outcome of this story-he has restored your faith in your fellow man, what a great thing to do Jim

There is a reason why so many (if not all) come here. It is without a doubt the people first and yes of course the knives, at least in my mind.

Jim, a big thank you to you:thumbup: What a terrific gift and gesture on your part.

Shrapne1, I believe this gift came your way because of the person you are---you truly appreciate the gesture, that's obvious. I have no doubt that the kindness you received will in the future be paid forward.

Paul

This type of action and generosity does not surprise me when it comes to this forum. The people who make up the bulk of folks here on the traditional forum, are the best on the 'net. You will not find a more family type of forum anywhere, that has this type of brotherly care for one another, and downright folksy behavior. When Karen bought her first computer some years ago, and she showed me how to get on the internet and browse, I went to all kinds of forums. Motorcycle forums, gun forums, camping forums, knife forums, whatever. None of them were immune from snarky rude behavior if someone didn't "fit" in with the ruling class.

THis forum is totally opposite. Polite and tolerant behavior is the rule instead of the exception. Coming to this forum is like coming home to a caring family after being out in the cold and often cruel world. I would be proud to call anyone here a brother, or depending on age, a much loved grandson. I have only met a few of the folks here, but even those I have never met, I would call family. And one is often generous with family.

Carl.

Well said, Carl, it's why we spend so much time here. Good, good folks abound here.

Nice move, Boggs.

Guys, there is one thing that can be learned from this story: apart from the people on this forum, dont trust anyone! and keep your precious knives in your deep front pockets. The worst place you can keep your wallet (or knife) is in your back pocket. Way too easy for a seasoned pickpocket to access.

This is most certainly a great place to be.
I feel great when I re-visit Traditionals, This morning I received an e-mail to say that a Gold Membership had been paid for me!, now just what can you say to that? I have been a paying member ever since I came here but have been waiting for finance to come a wee bit better after out huge end of year celebrations-our Wedding and of course Christmas! I am stunned, I really am, the dealings with my forum family when buying has ALWAYS been extremely pleasant, and the friendship is unequalled.
Thank you to all in here.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Thanks for sharing your story. Always scary that those kind of people lurk around but thankfully there are many great people as well. Look forward to pictures
