I am having a hard time choosing over the Starmate, Chinook, Military, and Wegner. It would be an EDC when I have chores or campin g (Small Sebbi for town and populated places) so size is not really a factor. When I use knives, I use them hard for scraping, hard push cuts, skinning game, and chopping. They get very dirty and are used hard and abused (abused in folder standards, but not to the level of cliff stamp!)My zytel handled folders flex alot because I have a strong grip and twist the handle alot, so do any of these spydies have handle flex? What cuts the best? Weight is a factor because I dont often wear belts. What do you use hard daily? Any sugestions would be great!

I think the that the Wenger is the best for skinning, the Military is probably the best for most camp chores, but I don't really know much about the Starmate. The Chinook easily has the strongest lock, and I personely think that it would be the best for very hard use, but that is just my opinion. The Chinooks blade would also be better suited for skinning than the Military's or Starmate's. The Chinook weighs the most as far as I know.

I can definitely recommend the Starmate. I too carry a small Sebenza at work and my Starmate in the pants just in case I need a larger blade. The Starmate has a very slight flex if really gripped tight, but it doesn't affect the lock up at all on mine. I also use it when hiking and camping as you get alot of blade in a slim and light package, doesn't weigh down shorts in the summer. The Starmate is also a great cutter. The 440V steel has proven to be really good and holds an edge real well and doesn't rust even when covered in sweat.

I've owned all the G-10 Spydies you describe and even though the Military is far and away my favorite, the Wegner is much, much more stiff and heavy duty. The Starmate and Millie have just G-10 with a nested liner lock. The Wegner has dual (thick) steel liners. The Millie and Starmate will absolutely flex with the kind of use you describe, the Wegner won't:)

I just don't like the fact that it's tip-up carry or I would never have sold mine:(

For all the uses you described, I can't help but think: CHINOOK!!

This is why I have one and what I intend to use it for. I am very impressed with this folder for its capabilities. Much cutting power in a small (yes, I said small) package IMO. Heck, I can almost conceal this beast in my hand when folded.

Second choice would definitely be: WEGNER

Happy choosing!
