Hey guys for the last few days i cant seem to decide what to do and what i want... i have a zt 550, bm 940, spyderco gayle bradley, para2, and am looking at a sage 1. I love them all and all are like new. I just cant seem to decide what to carry as my main edc. or do you guys like the sage 1 a lot where i should pick one of them up? one plus of the sage is the clip, i cant have a knife showing alot when im at school. also which one do you think after lots of use would hold up the best? also consider materials used in each

-550- I like because of the deep carry, SOLID lockup no play anywhere, im not a huge framelock fan though, and its pretty bulky and heavy.

-940- I like how thin it is and how i dont notice it in my pocket, i like the design, would probably get a str low rider clip

-gayle bradley- I like the finish the materials, the looks and everything, but would have to get a str clip also

-para2- like the knife and everything would also have to get a str clip, this one is more on the bottom of my list though but would like to hear what you guys think

-sage- dont have one but have handled one and love it! not sure i want to go and spend the money on one though.

any advice would be appreciated!

Para 2- Tough to beat. Great value, great lock, great ergonomics ( for most people ). Its handle is just the right size for my XL hands, meaning if it were any smaller it would be uncomfortable. However, as it is now, it is very comfy. S30V, not alot needs to be said. Great steel overall.

0550- Nice blade, hefty and stout. A little pocket tank, which means in my experience it took up a decent amount of pocket room, but nothing hindering ( pun not intended :D ). S35VN not a bad steel, but I would probably take S30V over it after the reading I have done.

Gayle Bradley- Probably one of the best values out there. CPM-M4 steel, which is not stainless but out of all the other steels in your selection should be top dog in terms of edge retention. Will patina, but from most accounts is not a rust monster. I love it, takes a very fine edge. Fit and finish is great, and it too is a work horse.

Sage and 940 I don't have experience with. But out of your list my selection would probably go as follows.

Para 2
Gayle Bradley
0550
940
Sage.

Hope that helps, and sorry for any typo's.

I often EDC my 550. It's a great solid knife that can take anything. Second for me would be the Para 2, the best value of the bunch.

thanks for the replies! i love the para2 for ergonomics and i like most everything about it, but my lock is sticky and have tried many things and nothing seems to work.... right now i am leaning towards the gb and getting an str clip. although its still tough decision i like them all! more replies and advice would be much appreciated!

I really love the design of the Para 2 and Sage(1 or 2). They feel great in hand, are pretty light, and really cut well.

S35VN not a bad steel, but I would probably take S30V over it after the reading I have done.

Don't believe everything you hear on the internet(not even this:p). S35VN is every bit as good as S30V, and IMO maybe a little better than S30V.
Holds and edge the same, easy to sharpen, and should be just a tad tougher. Its a great all around steel.

;) I definitely don't mind it. It should be easier to sharpen and polish than S30V. My 0550 had no issues with edge retention ect.

You don't need an str clip for the 940 just call up Benchmade and tell them you need a new clip for the 810 Contego. Its a deep carry variety that will fit any model Benchmade.

do i call or email? and how much are they?

Email or call whichever you prefer and AFAIK benchmade will usually send you clips for free. I haven't needed to use their warranty or contact their customer service yet but I've heard many good things from people who have.

Agree with carrying and using them all.....why have them if you don't use them??!! Personally, I would get rid of all of them and keep the 550....have two of my own and love them both. I only have six folders total and use them all.

All good choices for sure. I'd put the P2 at the top and Sage at the bottom also only because with the CF & wire clip I had some bad luck more than once with a bent clip and/or a knife sliding out of the pocket. Happened with the chap & dragonfly also but never any other Spyderco clip. Seem pretty popular with many though.
