So, after getting rid of some non users(aka non Emersons) I have some funds to put toward another Emerson. I want one that I can use on day hikes and general woods carry. I already have a Horseman and have another cqc7 headed to me after my significant other took my other cqc7 for herself.
I'm considering the cqc 13, Appalachian, or a full size cqc 8, but I have a horseman so I want something different.

I am a Southpaw so I am limited with choices, but the NEXT Emerson I hope they offer in Left Handed is the MINI-15. I honestly think that knife is the best of many worlds, and just feels good in my hand.

A 15 is a great knife... I use mine for work (landscaping/lawn care) and it works great!

What about the 10? the spear point would be excellent as a hiking, wood working knife.

If I had to get rid of all of my Emerson's but one, I'd keep the Commander. I think it is Emerson's best design - which even translates well to mini, Super, or Uber sizes!

I have own 2 of the knives that you're interested in, the 8 and 13. I have nothing but great things to say about them. I have not held the Appalachian, but the handle looks very similar to the Iron Dragon, and to me that is the most comfortable knife I have ever used. The 8 isn't far off from that design either, but I would suggest the 13. The handle design really locks the hand in place for hammer, saber and reverse grip, comfortably too. All three of the knives you listed IMHO have very useful tips of the blade. Someone suggested the Commander, and while it is a classic design, I found the belly to be very useful for many of my outdoor projects. Good luck with the search!

My vote would be for the Commander, it's my all time favorite Emerson.

Alright, im saving the commander for blade show, but I've got it down to a sheepdog Bowie or a 13. Whichever approaches me first[emoji6]

I agree with the Super CQC 8 but between those choices I would pick the CQC 13 because I just can't EDC a signed knife

If this helps... I EDC an Emerson knife according on the purpose. It's my Commander, for all purpose utility, or my 7 or Roadhouse for just business.
The 13 can cover all purpose utility but the Commander has a stronger point.

Okay, I think you guys have talked me into a commander. Now I gotta find a full size one!

Yea, the standard. After reading about the Commander in EKI's site, I want one even more.
