before reading: this is a long drawn out explanation of internal dialogues and conflicts that I have. as everyone knows, more often then not they are only really interesting to the people having them (with themselves), so ya...

right now I'm in super materialist reduction mode, selling everything except that wich I can fit into my little 88 toyota celica.

that basically means I'll have this by the end of it:

-5 boxes of books (that will completely fill the trunk)
-a weeks worth of clothes and one pair of boots, as well as what I wear on me (jacket and gloves specifically)
-my computer
-my sewing machine (a pfaff something or other... one of the first digital models)
-my electrolysis machine (I have a lot of tats I'm working on removing the hair from)
-instruments (small keyboard, my mothers guitar (can't ever sell), my ibanez artcore af75 guitar, my epiphone banjo, and my 6 string violin)
-my personal files

-and my knives.

thats it. I think that that will fill the entire back seat, the trunk, and most of the front passenger seat. I could do without the sewing machine and the electrolysis machine, but the sewing machine was a gift and will help keep clothes longer, and the electrolysis machine is expensive, hard to get ahold of, and having someone else do it is way, WAY more expensive then owning the machine and doing it myself.

I want a guitar, banjo, keyboard and violin. I just can't sell the aria classical my mother gave me, ever. I'll use it to play on the streets if It ever comes to that. I'll be walkin around with a 30" ang khola and an aria classical guitar strapped to my back.

SO. that leaves the knives. and that puts me in a bit of an akward position. I'm going to keep my swiss army knife in my jacket because It wouldn't sell for anything and doesnt take up any space, and I'm taking my leatherman becuase it is ultimately the one survival tool I would choose above all else.

there are 2 knives that I can't really sell... my modded NICK and my 30" ang khola. the nick is way to far out of the busse warrantee to sell it as anything remotely busse quality. if I ever sold it, it would have to be for 50$ or less, and with a billion caution statements saying it's not warranted. or I could gift it. and my 30" Ang Khola that I bought from bill martino. the only way I could ever have that leave my hands would be to gift it. otherwise it's staying with me to the grave. i sold it once, and regretted it until I was able to get it back. never again.

so that brings me to my current conundrum. at this moment I have 3 busses, and 3 on the way (someday). I have my NICK mod, a satin jack tac standard edition, and a ffbm that has been found! after a long time of being lost. the three that are coming are 2 custom choiless skinner/slicers and a moab.

So I have been going back and forth on wether to sell the sjtac and the ffbm.

basically, I'm trying to figure out just how important each part of my "triad" is. my triad = super thin skinner/slicer, prybar/semi chopper, and heavy chopper.

if I do without the heavy chopper, my prybar semi chopper can come in for some of that, and you can baton if all else fails. With sheeple jobs, all I carry is my leatherman anyways. I can always buy a 10$ axe later on to do heavy chopping, and that will give me the 450$ some odd dollars that I need now. machete's are cheap as well.

if I do without the prybar/semi chopper, the heavy chopper will take over for prybar actions - but only when I'm carrying it. what if I get caught in a turned over car? or a friend gets turned over in front of me as I'm following them?

these are the kinds of arguments one has with themselves even though they know better. the reality is that I should just sell all of them and carry my leatherman. I never carry anything else anymore, and if I'm just going to be using the stuff around the house, cheaping dedicated tools will be better at their individual tasks.

but its the turned over car bit that really gets me. I can't sell the satin jack. it's to perfect. I'll sell the ffbm, because I have the moab coming, and I may sell the NICK mod for 25$ someday once I get my slicers, but I'm keeping the sjtac. if I have 2 tools, it will be that and the leatherman. it's just to perfect.

1) MOAB
2) SJTAC

Sell the rest.

I gotta keep at least one of the choiless custom slicers - they don't exist anywhere else! ever!! :D:D:D:D I'm very excited them...

but yes... it will be down to one of the choiless skinners, moab and sjtac by the end of it :D

Man, hope everything is okay with you...

I definitely think I'd sell the FFBM first...

social drama has given me lots of incentive to get out of the state as quickly as possible. so at the end of my apartments lease (mid february) I want to be able to drive away and never look back, preferably without having to rent anything to haul my stuff in.

I don't make much money, and really - I'm not that good with money to begin with. so, I'm trying to move out of state while paying off tax debt, and working from scratch as far as savings are concerned. hopefully by february I'll be debt free (mostly) and have enough to get where I'm going. it's either going to be nebraska or washington... I have someone who would house me in nebraska (at least for a while), so thats good, and I have a job position that is about 80% gaurenteed in tacoma washington, wich would be good as well as long as I had enough to get me through the month in a hotel.

I'll be fine :), this past year has just showed me where my priorities need to be.

Having never been to Nebraska, I can teel you that I LOVE Tacoma Washington. I've done some training in that area and the whole state of Washington is at the top of my list as to places I'd like to retire in.

I understand priority shifts, I've had a few in the last couple of years. The one thing I've learned is that balance is absolutely the most critical part of happiness, if my focus shifts to far into one thing and I neglect others, that's when things get all whacky. I've also found out that no matter what, everything will always be ok...

Good to kow you're alright then! Sounds like you have a plan

I wish you the best. If you decide on Tacoma, let me know, and we'll have a Busse day at some point. I'm just over the Narrows from Tacoma.

Is it wrong that the first thought I had was whether or not I could swoggle one of the slicers off you?

Regarding personal files:

Are these hard copies? If so, you may wish to consider scanning them and converting to digital. I recommend keeping copies in multiple formats (CDROM, USB drive, CF card, etc.) and perhaps in online remote storage as well. Once you get somewhere stable, establish an account at a bank that offers safe deposit boxes and stick copies in there as well.

Install a trailer hitch, get a small trailer, keep whatever you want.

lol, my poor 88 celica has a hard enough time hauling me :D it's got 223,000 miles on the engine, and 500,000 on the body. I'm not even sure it will be able to carry everything I'm planning on taking

Yeah, I believe it. I drive an '85 Tercel Wagon. Still has less than 100,000 miles on it though.

I bet it could handle a motorcycle trailer. . . maybe a bicycle trailer? :D

Roof rack?

I have to say, keep any knife that is worth more than the car. You should be able to find enough room for a couple of extra knives.

The books on the other hand will take up your whole trunk, if they are not of some sentimental value I'd say sell 'em and then replace them when you get settled in. On the other hand if they do have personal value you might look into shipping them ahead and save the space and strain on your car.

whatever you do, don't leave anything worth more than $300 in plain sight - yah i know - y'all not dumb - but a window smash and grab could be a $$$ $$$ $$$ mistake for that quick cup of coffee - i've seen pictures and heard too many stories of "everything gone" in 15 minutes.

hide the knifes in the deepest darkest underseat rear cushions or in the trunk. a few books piled on that won't hurt. carry the rest on you.

good luck with the journey

bladite

(and man, i wish i had seen your sale in time ;>)
