I'm buying an old carbon steel Chefs knife from a forum member because it looks like a decent quality knife in fair condition that I can put to use after minor work.

I half expected it to have zero markings so I'm buying it regardless, but it is stamped on the handle and I've never heard of the brand before.

It's branded Rigs, + plus a model number.
I don't know if this is an actual Cutler , a brand owned by another Cutler, or just some random small brand contracted to a major Cutler.

I'd love to know at least some basic general information on this brand if anyone knows anything.

Pics will help.
I don't have the knife yet , but I suppose i could post the pictures I was sent.
I know pictures are often needed but I'm not sure they are in this instance, since I'm not necessarily look for information on the knife itself at this time.
Just general information on the brand if there is any.

The knife is fairly generic, the brand is Rigs, maybe someone has heard of the brand and maybe not.

Was likely made by Dexter based on the handle. I'll have to look at some old ones downstairs.
Google up Dexter 45a10h

Dexter to this day does some OEM work.

Alright thanks, it certainly is a very close match for the Dexter 45a10h.

Big giveaway is the font of the handle characters. Looks the same to me as my Dexter.
Thank you for the Information.
I had a suspicion it was a contract knife as I couldn't even find a mention of another knife with this brand on it.

Not a problem. Told you a pic would help. ;)

Clean that thang up and put it to use. I love mine.

Post some pics once it is done.

Will do.
Just some minor clean up to remove any rust then some clean up on the wood, probably just some light sanding and some oil.

Here it is all sharpened up

The wood is a little rough, but it's still solid so I think I'll leave it as is, maybe just clean it up a bit with some steel wool or something.

Sweet! may have started a chef but now looks like a good carver.

It does look a bit narrower than I'd normally imagine a chef to be, it will be good for pretty much everything I need a knife for In the kitchen which isn't a lot.
Mostly dicing potatoes , and slicing cheese sausage or salami, and carving rotisserie chickens.
I tell ya the 5 star rotisserie is probably the only good kitchen item ever sold by Ron Popeil / Ronco.
