Hello all, I am completely new to working on/making knives. I have a high end production knife that I want to put a new handle on. I need some micarta and bolsters/pins/screws. I'm pretty sure I've found the bolsters/pins/screws. I am looking for some desert/tan canvas micarta atleast .75" thick but I must not be looking in the right places. I did try searching here but found nothing, not saying it's not here, I just couldn't find it. I would like enough for atleast three attemps for WHEN I mess up. Does anyone know where I can find it. I thought about using antler but I wouldn't have a clue on finding that.

Micarta only comes in a limited number of colors, Black, Ivory, burgundy, green, brown and natural. (There are some bi-colors also) The natural is between tan and amber however as the natural ages it turns brown. (there is nothing you can do about it) I don't know if it is a reaction to light or oxidation or a combination of both. But even if you get micarta that looks tan it won't stay tan. A lot of times you will see micarta that looks brown and you grind the surface off and about .020 down you find it's natural.

If you are interested in the natural color there is a seller on ebay has some in either .750 or 1.000 for sale, search under phenolic. I think the seller might be lowcostmetals. I have done business with them in the past and they are very good to deal with.

Thanks for the replies. The stuff at Texas knife supply only came in 3/8" thick so I had to pass. I'm not very literate with with material terms, phenolic. Is this micarta? I did however find what I think I'm looking for at Alpha Knife Supply. It's 1.5" thick canvas micarta in natural and from the description Ilovetoolsteel gave, It sounds like what I'm looking for. It's a little thicker than I wanted but I can take it down.

Thanks again

Hey Silas...

Try Chuck Bybee at Alpha Knife Supply.

They sell G-10 in what they call a light green....it finishes out to a neat sort of honey color....he's got it in bowie blocks...pretty big...

Worked for me...see the pics in a thread called "soldier's knife"....

It's a bit different...but different is cool...
