I can't for the life of me center my military's blade!

I tried adjusting the pivot, nothing. I tried loosening the back spacer, nothing. I tried a combination. I tried wedging paper. Still nothing! Is there a secret to this?

If you tighten the pivot down regardless of whether it's to tight for the blade to move, does it eventually center the blade? If so, just back it off enough to allow blade pivot and leave it there until broken in.
If not, take everything apart and slightly bend the liners in the proper direction to correct the misalignment. Remember that on the Military, the clip screws also tap into the liner on that side so loosening them is essential as well when making any blade alignment adjustments.

There is an easy solution, honestly. Send it in to Spyderco! They'll fix it for you. That is, of course, if it bothers you enough to pay for shipping. Otherwise, leave it as is! I have 9 Militaries, and 6 of them have off centered blades. All of them perform similarly (excluding the different steel ones). Unless your blade is rubbing against the liner, you're safe.

After i removed the clip screws, it lined up beautifully. Now i can leave it alone! Going to let the loctite dry until tomorrow night, then i'll play with it and break it in some more. Glad i got all the issues sorted out.

Glad it worked out for you, I've yet to play with a spyderco that I couldn't get perfectly centered.

Haha. I used loctite, but i keep readjusting it. i used it on all the screws on the knife, and had to disassemble a few times. Should i have re-added loctite or is it still good within the first hour? I keep tightening the pivot down in small increments because i notice some blade play, but the frame screws were only removed like twice.

Yeah? It still needs to go to the right a hair, but you think it's about as good as it'll get?

Well, i guess that's that. i tried a million different ways and it still ends up in the same spot no matter what.

Well, i took it apart one last time (fully) to clean it and try and straighten it. I actually took it all the way down (with the acception of the lanyard hole) and cleaned it all, lubed & loctited. I think it should be good for a while. I'll just have to accept the fact that it won't be straight.

Do you think that maybe no matter what i try, since it won't go straight, theres something off tolerances wise? I've even adjusted it the way people told me to and had someone else screw it together. Maybe the blade's warped? Maybe something is cut slightly thicker? Whatever it is, i have no idea.

Did you try swapping the washers? Have you tried the usual fix?

1. With the folder closed, wedge a folded piece of paper between the blade and the side of the handle that you want to move it away from.

2. With the wedge in place, loosen the pivot and the scale screws. Don't remove any of the screws, just loosen them.

3. Without doing anything else, tighten the pivot and the scale screws. This might be a good time to put locktite on the screws.

4. Adjust the pivot to your desired tension.

Yes, lol everybody keeps mentioning that method. I've tried them all, plus a few of my own. Also, i did swap the washers, still nothing. It conssitently goes back to the same spot. It's better than when i started, but still not dead center.

I've always wondered if these attempts to solve a purely cosmetic issue ever result in the creation of a fairly serious functional one by causing the ball dent to become mis-aligned with its receptacle in the blade.

This is about as good of a picture as I could get at its final resting spot after stripping it down and cleaning it last night. Tried getting a decent manual focused macro shot of it. Not the best but it'll do:

No knife is ever going to be perfectly centered, and if you think it is, you need a better measuring device. Nothing is perfect.
It's nice to have the tip sit somewhere around the middle, but as long as there is no rubbing it's good enough for me.
