I'm looking at getting one of these three next month, which one do I get?

Swamp Rat Camp Tramp, Ratweiler or Rat Daddy?

Ooooh. Tough one. Obviously the Ratweiler is the most accessible right now. But if you've got a line on either the CT or RD then I definitely see your dilemma.

Hmm....

Camp Tramp and Rat Daddy are not in production any longer. You'd have to get them through a private sale, ebay, etc.

Ratweiler is available from SRKW on a 3 - 12 week wait.

Rat Mastif is available probably this Friday from the company store on a first come first served basis. See the Rat Mastif thread.

like 360 said, the tramp and the daddy are no longer available directly, so if you have a lead on one of them, jump! assuming the ratweiller never goes away, you can always order one of those with a wait time.

if it were me, and i had a lead on one, i would go with the daddy and order the ratweiller later. the camp tramp is a great knife, but the ratweiller will do whatever it can do. and the daddy, well, it's just that. the daddy of the rats. :D

Rat Daddy would be my choice of those, but they are hard to find and are going for premium prices. I would also recommend the Rat Mastiff as quickest to get, and almost as good a chopper as the Rat Daddy, just a wee bit shorter. I havent seen many Battle Rats or Camp Tramps for sale since they discontinued that version, I am expecting the new version to appear sometime soon.

Just wanted to highlight that part. Eric said that there would be changes to everything...maybe cosmetic, maybe major design...we just don't know what's going to happen.

ERiC?! The tension is KiLLinG ME!!

breathe..... breathe ....

...

okay, I'm better. :D

So...all availability issues aside...which knife of the ones listed in this thread would you guys prefer to own? In other words, in seeking just one of them, which one would it be?

I think for me it would still be the Ratweiler. I like the small(ish) size compared to the others. This suits me because I don't use this blade as a dedicated chopper. For a chopper, I might go with the Battle Rat (if chopping were ALL I'd do with it) or either the Rat Daddy or Rat Mastiff if I might be inclined to abuse the handle. Hmmm....

Some people would just get all of them....credit cards be dammed! :D

For me that is easy, RATDADDY.
The CT will be back in a new form, the RW is available through the webstore. The RatDaddy will never be produced again. Its only 1.5 - 2 inches bigger than the RM but supposedly a lot more expensive/harder to make. Prolley because you have to buy a bigger chunk of steel. Not to mention the RatDaddy is the toughest blade I have ever seen. It has chopping power that is close to hatchet. I LOVE THE RATDADDY.

Rat Daddy!!! Biggest blade, not in production, likely most collectable, should be worth the most in the long run. If you get it and don't want it, put it up on the forums and it will likely get snatched up in minutes. :)

If you can get a Rat Daddy buy it: supposedly, there aren’t going to be anymore.

You can order a Ratweiler anytime.

I’d want to see what the new Tramp looks like (once it returns) before buying an old one.

I've heard that the Rat Daddy LE's aren't any good. There were problems with the uncoated blades and I was told to steer clear of them. This is also true of Satin Battle Rats as well.. and ummm...... Bog Dog's and Safari Skinners.... yeah bad steel. I think it's best if you just leave them alone.

I've heard over onthe Busse site that cold steel makes nice stuff.... yeah... um... cold steel is good.

How about I swap you a nice new Mazda for that old Ferrari?

(Disregard you could be able to buy them or not)

Rat Daddy - I believe it is the top performance. I have experience holding it and chop some wood . it the grip , the holding was realy great. Only it is just like driving a Humvy into the the forest and insome case like rain forest , it may be too big to go through the trees in the wild. (in some case a smaller knive is a better choice.

Ratweiler - 7.5 inches blade is almost the same with Camp Tramp which is a 7 inches Blade. The same grip with Rat Daddy but surprised that I did not feel comfortable like holding Rat Daddy perhaps the different in the balance of the blades. However in terms of balnce of the knife I think RW lost to CT

Camp Tramp - is almost perfect medium chpper. It is better performance than RW in all terms (exemp the look).

I would like to choose CT for almost all condition and situation. It is the best in term of cost too.
