First of all, howdy! First post and all, but let's get to it!
Wow, are these knives great! I've been into knives for about 3 years now, since I got my first Mora. I was going to an outdoor high school and knives were allowed, so I started a small collection, nothing special. The tipping point actually came earlier this year, when I started reading heaps and heaps of threads from this forum.
As I learned, one thing stuck out- Beckers are great, affordable knives, that people don't have much bad to say about! So I found myself, in a position where the 5 and 15 were clearance, and naturally discontinued takes precedence! So I had both in my cart, when I noticed the 17... Well, the 17 sold itself on looks alone. A few days later and the disease was fully assimilated.
I soon stripped the 5, learned to put a patina on with mustard and vinegar, and hit the woods. I fell in love! I soon ordered the bk24, as I'd always wanted a d2 knife, and figured it was a gap in my lineup. Again, what a lovely knife! I convexed the edge, and now I have a stainless Becker! Convenient for harsh weather.
But it wasn't over! While I knew from the second I handled the bk17 it was the perfect knife for me, I knew I wasn't going to stop.
After a few weeks/months, the roll stamped bk4 was clearanced by kabar! Welp, you'd best believe I got one! And promptly realized I'd be getting them all, sooner or later. The 4 was followed by a 13, a neat little knife, my first FHG.
I had to see what all the fuss was about, so I ended by beckers for now with a bk9 and a bk16. The 16 underwhelmed me after the 17, but nonetheless is a fantastic part of my lineup. But the 9 was the real winner, I'd known for a long time the geometry was far better than any other Becker for chopping, but I had to see it. It's incredible! But not just that, it makes a great knife too!
I've said nothing that hasn't been said before, but I just wanted to thank you all for starting this, and continuing to be a wealth of information, I hope to do my part as time goes on!
As a beckerhead in the making to all of you out there, thanks for this great place to learn!
