I can't get my Dalton Companion to stop popping open in my pocket.

My pockets are all filled with holes from that, and they're getting big enough that the knife falls out of some of my pockets. Every now and then something bangs against the button and it springs open. I've been trying to think of a way to keep that from happening, but I'm not sure what would work. I could tighten the main screw, but that would keep the blade from opening intentionally too. I could file the button way the hell down, so that it's less likely something will hit it accidentally, but that would take a long time and it might make it hard to press the button intentionally. A stiffer spring under the button would help, but I have no idea how I would get one the right size. Any ideas?

I've never heard of so many mis-fires with a Dalton.

Well, I carry a bunch of other knives in my pockets, and sooner or later something whacks against the button.

HUH?! Your main large folder get's it's own pocket

Who said it was my main large folder? That's my Cuda Maxx, clipped to my right front pocket, with brass knuckles in the pocket. The Companion is in the front left, along with my Zippo, two mini multi tools, and a crappy little 2" Master folder. I used to carry the Companion in my right pocket, but now all my right front pockets have too many holes in them, so I moved it to the left (knuckles are too big to fall out, though.) Additionally, I have a Hertz butterfly on the back of my belt (which will soon be either replaced or accompanied by a Typhoon), a Timberline Lightfoot neck knife under my shirt, a Kershaw Trooper on my left calf, and depending on if there are sheepish people around me - a HI khukuri cross-draw on my left hip, and a USMC Ka-Bar on my right hip. So, eventually the button hits something. :\

Thats a ton of hardware man, why SO many? I can understand 2-3...but why the leg sheaths? Is it for your job or something?

&#115hit... and I thought I used to carry a few... I've gone down to 4 from my carry of 8. Funny thing is that in the last 3 days I've used 2 of them only.

I don't know, really...

I like knives...

Just my observation, but judging by your postings you hurt yourself a lot with knives. Ever thought of giving up knives for another hobby? Say fireworks, the're fun.

Man, that is a ton o KnIvEs to be carrying all at once. I thought my 4 was excessive but I think I'm light compared to you:D

Oh yeah, forgot to answer your question. I, personally, think that the best solution without cutting down on the number of stuff in your pocket would be to get some sort of holster for it. Maybe even an pocket one or a waistband kydex?

I carry 2 knives...

A spyderco cricket for detailed cuts (this knife is insanely sharp)

And an Emerson Specwar for prying open anything (very solid knife)

Ever heard of buying new pants or fixing the pockets? And what kind of pants do you wear now? 10 Pocket pants come to mind in your case.

Oh, come on, I made one post about hurting myself with knives. The rest is just the usual thing... occasional nick from a butterfly knife or whatnot.

By the way, it's funny you should mention fireworks, I've spent the last two days disassembling literally hundreds of fireworks and removing the flash powder. I'm going to make something go boom-boom. :D

Yeah, I sew the pockets once the holes get big enough that stuff starts dropping out.

I only have two pockets that I put knives in, but apparently I carry more than most people... I knew that, but I thought there were a lot of knife nuts who carry more than me. Only the khukuri and the Ka-Bar are visible. When I first got into knives, I used to carry around over 20 knives, but they were all pieces of crap. I didn't think it was strange at the time, but now I see it was a smidge unessisairy.

Get rid of the 2" junk folder and one of the two multi-tools. I don't think you need two of them in there. Then get yourself a sheath for the Companion. If you want a nice one, get Lifter or Gary G to make you one. If you are set on pocket carry, you can even get a slip sheath for it to keep it in your pocket as well.

One multi-tool is a pair of pliars, the other is a pair of scissors. I use them both quite a bit, actually. The junk folder I just have around in case I'm somewhere that wouldn't look kindly upon snapping out a 5" knife, but come to think of it, the knife in either or the multi tools would work just as well for that. I'll look into getting a sheath once I have some money.
