I can't get my new leek to actuate correctly.

I received a new leek from kershaw about a week ago. It was stiff when i got it, but i figured it would loosen up some. Well, about 3 days and probably 200 flips later, it still took excessive, concentrated force on the index flipper to get it to lock open. I tried to loosen the pivot screw, to no avail. Next i took the whole thing apart. I cleaned everything and polished the bronze phosphor washers, then lubricated everything with a graphite lubricant. I think it's actually worse now. No amount of force on the index flipper will get the thing to lock. I tore it apart again, this time inspecting the torsion bar. It was rubbing very hard against the frame, so i adjusted it slightly and put it all back together, to zero effect. I'm stumped. Any suggestions? I really feel like the torsion bar just doesn't have the oomph it needs, as the action of the hinge is smooth. I did however notice that the blade occasionally binds on the pivot right before lockup and actually turns it. is this normal? Should i try a different lubricant? I've never had to apply extra lubricant to my other leeks. I'd really appreciate any advice on this one! sorry for the long post!

You may be pushing the pocket clip into the lock putting pressure on the blade that is enough to slow it down so it does not engage. Try flipping it with focused effort to keep from pushing in on the clip as you open it. It won't take much drag to slow it but it may be if thats not it that you just have the pivot tension too tight or that for whatever reasons you got one with a weak torsion spring somehow. If it persists call Kershaw and mail it back to the customer service for them to look over, fix or replace.

I fixed it! Turns out, the first screw in the backspacer was being tightened WAY to much by the factory and myself, and it caused the washers to bind regardless of the pivot tightness. Your suggestions led me to this discovery STR, thanks for the advice. :)

I was going to suggest that, because I ran into similar problems with my Delica.
