I watch very little basketball anymore. The inflated salaries and egos make me mad. I had put Shaq at the top of my list, but I can't help but like the guy, at least a little. He was on ESPN and when they announced that Steve Nash won the MVP he pretended to cry and carry on and then said that Nash was a great player and congratulated him. He doesn't take himself toooooo seriously. Some commentator that I read a while ago mentioned that even though nobody loves Goliath, (Chamberlin?) that Shaq has kept a sense of knowing that he was a big kid playing a game making huge money doing it. He doesn't get angry and bitter when people make fun of his size and generally doesn't have that sulky demeanor that so many big men like Jabber, Chamberlin, even Russell possessed.

I'm sure he's got enemies and I'm sure he does lots of stuff that if it got out would not be so good, but he seems to acknowledge his good fortune.

Me too :footinmou

He seems to appreciate his situation and get a kick out of it all the time. His post-game commentaries are the best :D

I like Shaq O.K. I suspect if you knew him he would be a lot of fun to be around, but Nash is the real deal. A really great guy.

Can't stand the guy. I was/am a Laker's fan from way back during the Magic era. (Remember watching them play the Rockets (twin towers!:D) on tape delay at 11:00 at night (all for the chance to get beat by Larry Legend.

After the dynasty got broke up, there was two players I DIDN'T want them to get... Shaq and Kobe... And jeeze... Shaq has always struck me as a bully, dropping his shoulder and knocking guys around. I was used to Kareem's finesse and actual ability, and along comes a guy who barrell's his way to the hole. If he tried to go around someone for once instead of though or over them, I may change my mind. Oh... the can't-make-a-free-throw thing pisses me off too. If I got payed $1M a year to put the ball in the hole, well... (My personal record is 103 in a row back in 2000, so if the guy was was on the end of the bench on his high school team can learn to shot them, Shaq should be able to...)

Kobe changed my mind for a while... but then he got to thinkin' he was Mike... This season proved him waaaaay wrong on that one.

Nash seems like a good guy. I shouldn't lump all players in my first comment. Just a generalization.

As a person and an asset to the NBA he is great. He seems to really apprecate his success is intimately related to his relationship to the fans.

Watching him play Detroit in last years finals made me realise he ain't that great a player. Much of his court prowess is due to his size not his ability. He would put up a shot and wouldn't wait for a rebound. He would be running up court while his teamates were scrambling for the rebound on his missed shot. I never saw a player shake a defender off as easily as the Detroit players shook Shaq. He looked like an old man. He looked like he wasn't even trying in the last 2 games.
