I Can't Keep Track of My Slipjoints

This has been an issue for me since like 2005. My first great loss was my Seki City original Spyderco Kiwi. I even found it in a couch and then lost it again, forever the second time. Right now, I have a green linen GEC sodbuster lost in my own oblivion somewhere. And, most recently, I was given a Lionsteel Bestman spearpoint in ebony covers for my birthday. I can't find it, and that was only a few days ago. I haven't even left the house.

I do not have a problem like this with my pocket clip, locking knives. I always know exactly where they are. The funny thing is, I do not treat these knives differently. I store them in the same places. The only difference is the lack of pocket clip.

The end result is that I am currently trying to find my Seki Kiwi, GEC sodbuster, and Lionsteel Bestman right now. Why do these little, clipless weasels insist on diving out of my pockets into the void? Should I just stop buying clipless knives?

Help.

I've had the exact opposite experience personally... Pocket clips have a habit of snagging in things in my surrounding habitat and go awol. My solution has been to add a short fob with a small carabiner to clip to my belt loop, and I just drop my small sebenza right in my pocket...

I carry a slip joint lose in my right front pocket most days with a folded up bandanna on top of it. I’ve been doing this for probably close to ten years and haven’t had any knife carried this way sneak out of my pocket. Also the bandanna doesn’t give me any trouble reaching for my knife or putting it back into the pocket. As a bonus I have a clean an folded bandanna just in case I need it.

I love both clipless and slipjoint knives. I just can't seem to manage not losing them.

Do you wear a belt?
Do you think you'd wear a sheath on a belt?
Do you think you could get use to putting a knife back into a sheath on your belt?

Maybe try a belt sheath? Or do you prefer not to advertise you are carrying a knife?

My knives go in my pockets but I wear a LM Wave in a sheath on my belt most days.

Depends on the pants you wear. I've carried traditional pocket knives for over 60 years. During those years I have worn jeans most of the time. I carry the knife in the primary right front pocket, not the watch pocket. I've never had a knife slip out of a jeans pocket. But when wearing slacks, I tend to do what Grateful Grateful does and carry a folded paper towel or handkerchief in that pocket. It does help that I don't fiddle with my knives. I only take them out of the pocket to use them. Then I put them back in the pocket.

Agree on the slip sheath carry, for a couple reasons, but I'd suggest one that is fairly snug when putting the knife inside as well. This one is actually really really snug, but, I prefer that to just falling out.

I wear a lot of lighter clothing. Gym shorts, office slacks, pajama pants. I wear heavy jeans and cargo pants with a belt too, but not every day. I would never wear a visible sheath for a knife unless I am carrying a fixed blade for outdoor use. A pocket slip sheath is probably my best bet.

Agreed, a pocket slip is your best choice.

One last thought. IF the slip joint has a lanyard hole, you could add a decorative fob to help add some resistance to keep it from falling/sliding out of your pocket too.

I've lost both modern and traditional.

I do use slip sheaths typically.

I've lost a custom slipjoint multiple times..and found it....
