There are two things I want but I can only have one. Help me decide.

NMSFNO, or a Skinny ASH-1.

To the people who have received their NMSFNO, Are they really the "One to Have"? They look like they could possibly be.

I already have a ASH-1 CG and LE, but the Skinny ASH is screaming my name. I really like the ASH design and feel. Ever since I first saw a pic of one of the originals in ATS 34 I heard voices singing from above.

Oh, did I mention the NMSFNO is screaming my name too.

I have always tried to go the "carry a big knife and a small knife" route. Like a NMFBM and a BATAC. Or a FBM and a ASH.

Now this Bad ARSE NMSFNO comes out and that blows my whole plan. Unless I were to carry my Culti and the NMSFNO. Yeah, that might work!

What say ye?

I never liked the ASH-1. Didn't even want the one with my HOG name. But this NMSFNO is really tempting me. YMMV.

the question you should be asking yourself is...

are you an ash man or a t1t man.

let your conscience be your guide

I'll admit, the first thing that popped into my mind after reading your post is, "I have two hands".

what do you want, a med sized camp knife, or a slightly bigger chopper? i tend to go with the slightly bigger knife and then have a smaller, and all my needs are taken care of. the nmsfno isn't that big and heavy. i think it's pretty close to just right. but if you want something smaller and lighter, the skinny ash would be what you want

Having the ASH LE already (close to a skinny ash) , I'd go for the NMSFNO.

I doubt the NMSFNO is "the one to have." I think the old SFNO fits that bill. The NMSFNO is a little too long to be an all around knife IMHO, but then again, mine hasn't landed yet. I would go with the skinny ASH if I was you. It has perfect width, weight and balance, and is easy to carry. Since you know you already like the design, you know you'll like it. It's definitely an improvement on the CG ASH-1.

After the Ash LE I think the Skinny to be the next best for weight/balance........the NMSFNO seems to repeat the functionality of the FSH......if you have a FSH the NMSFNO might be duplication.....whereas the old SFNO is a distinct seperate category....the next stage down from the FSH.....If you have'nt got a FSH I would go for the NMSFNO rather than a Skinny....I think the 8 inch range is one of the best "one knife does all" categories....if they did a double cut version I would have ordered one but managed to get two D/C FSH's......I know I will use these more than my two Skinny's but both are excellent.

I respectfully disagree with most of you. The NMSFNO is better than the skinny ASH. I would take my SarQ over any of the ASH family and I would take the NMSFNO over the SarQ. Lay it on top of the SarQ or ASH and its not much bigger. Certainly not enough to say its too big or too heavy for most people. The grip on the ASH is very nostalgic and comfortable but the grip on the SFNO(or Squatch) is more versatile. I would almost always go with a little longer blade than shorter. Who wouldn't want a BAIII with just a bit more blade, or a game warden that was just slightly longer? I know theres many of you who will disagree but my two cents is this is the best all rounder that I own. Almost wants me to get two more, if I didn't have two already and five of the SarQ I just might but I think I got this middle ground covered. (With two knives that I truly think of as future classics). Get one, its only 22 dollars more than the skinny, you won't regret it.

Get the NMSFNO. At these prices and with what you already have it is the logical conclusion. If you don't like it trade it for a skinny and some cash down the line. Chances are it may just rise in value more and faster than the skinny. Problem solved.

Ok, NMSFNO it is! Now to email Okuden.

Thanks for the help everybody.

weight is an issue too. the nmsfno is both longer and thicker. while i've got rather skinny arms and still think it isn't too heavy, it's still significantly heavier than the skinny ash

Another point I don't think has been mentioned...

Most of the knives end up at the BCS for a while (hence the Skinny ASH is available). But they don't last forever there.

If the NMSFNO's go the same route, they will be available at the BCS at some point.

So, you could get a Skinny ASH now, before they run out, and wait for the NMSFNO to hit the BCS.

Just a thought...

Get a Sarsquatch. :D

Seriously, I'd like to handle a skinny ASH myself so that I could put this same matter to rest in my mind.

It's hard to grow a Skinny ASH, but you could always have someone grind down a NMSFNO to whatever you want.
