This one soaked in the Citrus Stripper for 5 days and then I used a nylon blade to remove the coating to avoid scratching the blade. Afterwards, I used Simichrome Polish to even out the texture and finish. Then I put the handles from my black IZULA that I made last week and added Phillips head screws. I go the Phillips head idea from GUNDY when he posted that amazing photo of all the ESEEs in orange that required sunglasses. The screws from my HEST sheath were robbed and ground down a little so they would not bump in the middle of the knife. I like the effect and the illusion of added girth.

Also, this is the newer IZULA and shows that the handle slabs don't cover any of the markings.

Before I strip anything else, I'm going to give it a little time with this IZULA to see if I like the absence of coating.

That's sweet! Did you have to trim or shave down the outside edges of the HEST handles or did they fit pretty good with the Izula???

I like the shape of those scales a lot. What did you make the internal pieces out of?

Those scales totally change the characteristics of the Izula. That is an excellent looking piece!

There was a lot of material removed to make the handles fit the IZULA. It's not a simple case of just bolding them on. Took about a 1 1/2 hours to get the final fit.

This answered the question I had. I don't own the HEST so couldn't get a side-by-side comparison of the handle shapes. I figgered it must've taken some shaping to get it right or someone would've tumbled onto the idea before now. Looks good.

Ahh, I see. Yes, I used only one black piece at the butt of the knife, the front only needed the nut in the middle.
