I can't type very well.... need help with spelling!

OK, I have a problem. Mostly I can spell, but I am a lousy typist. Never had a course. Boys did not study typing in school in the 1950s and 1960s. Girls did.

So my typing is full of errors that I have to slowly correct. If it is a longer post, I just cut and paste in my word porcessor [see!], then cut and paste to back here. This is getting old!!

I usually get all the letters in, but maybe not in the right order "ahve" for "have" and "becasue" for "because," are common mistakes.

I have heard there are spell checkers that will check words and highlight, or offer changes when you are typing in fourm texts such as this.

I sure would appreciate a link to a good spellchecker that would also have a dictionary so I can add words like Bunso, Naga Basuki, khukuri,-- would be nice if the spellchecker were free!

I really got spoiled by Word for Windows spell checker!

I mispell all the time, Bill.

And as Spiral said, so does he and a whole gaggle of others.

The only part I find aggravating is when you've mispelled a thread title. You can't go back and fix it.

If you're on a Mac and have OS X the dictionary and spell check are built in and work fine on forums like this one. Just go to the EDIT menu and then SPELLING and check the box for CHECK SPELLING AS YOU TYPE. Yes, you can add unusual words as well. Grammar check is not included unfortunately.

The dictionary is cool as well, just put the cursor over the word you want a definition for and then hit the Command, Shift and D keys and a little window will pop up with definitions for the selected word.

You can edit titles by going to advanced when editing a post. It will then display the title and you can edit it
 
I tried and it didn't work, Ted. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Computer dead brain here. The only think I edit is the title on the top of the post, not for the thread.

Bill,
When you are replying to a thread, look at the top right corner of the gray box around the text window. There is a little ABC with a check mark under it. Click on it and it will ask if you want to download IESpell. Click yes, and it will open another window to download it. After installation, you just click on the ABC and it will check your post. Just tried it, and it seems to work.

Or install the google tool bar.

OK have downloaded the Google tool bar that needs Firefox. So I DL Firefox also.

Now I can't figure how to import my links from Mozilla to Firefox.

But the Spell Checker on the Google tool bar is nice. Now if only I can get my links from my old Mozilla browser..

Never understood the difference between Firefox and Mozilla,

in firefox, from menu select file-import, select the middle radio button for mozilla & click 'next' button

p.s. - eye do knot get the cheque mark/ aybeesea thingy inn the advanced edit winder. mebbe us peasants do note have thet priveledge.

BRAVO!! Brilliant. (This is also the type of thing spamsters use to try to get by spam blocker programs BTW. Just misspell the blocked words.)

I am delighted with the spam blockers on juno.com and gmail.com since very little gets past them, no matter what gimmicks the slime use.
 
In case it has not been mentioned ? You must go to the beginning of the thread you started to edit the beginning . The change will not migrate up the thread . You click on the original post and that will give you the edit/go advanced option for the title of the thread .
