I created a warp

I was surface grinding some 1094 and I think I got too aggressive and now I have a bend/warp. This has not been heat treated yet. Should I straighten now or later and how? Thanks for helping me with my rookie mistake.

No expert here, but if this warp is due to heat generated by grinding then I’d probably anneal it next - then straighten using a vice and some bar stock - then finish the surface grinding - then quench/temper… I’d wait for more folks with more experience to chime in before following my advice too. ;)

Is it warped or merely bent? If you put enough pressure on the steel , I’d say you bent the piece. Put it in your vise and straighten it, since it’s not hard.

It's bent, a rather slight U shape. I did put it in the vise with a dowel rod to attempt straightening but was gentle. I suspect I need to use more pressure. This is all new to me and I'm easing in. No it is not hard yet, this was just delivered to me and has had no HT. Not sure how my first posted stated 1094 when it's actually 1084.
