outside the pics may be of help.
thanks mick
p.s.

Would really help if you take a picture of the kami mark, this will help us identify it for you. Like you said if it looks like a half sun, it is Sher the tiger, and by looking at the handle it appears to be a chainpuri model. The photo of the kami mark would be the best way to ID it for sure.

as requested closeups of the kami marks by the way thats polishing rouge in the nooks and crannys not rust lol

You had it right from the start, Lal.
I'm not sure if it's the same as Prince Harry uses, as i've yet to see a decent shot of his khukuri.

The photo of Prince Harry holding a khukuri that I recall showed a khukuri which
most resembled a panchthar chitlangi.

Just wanted to throw this out to those who would know better than I.

Didn't Kesar have the full sun mark until 2002? I've never seen Kesar's mark and so don't have any way to compare the two. (I'm looking at a khukuri that was made by Jag and Prem that appears to have a full sun mark, also.) I thought I saw a tag in one of the pictures, did you get any information on the maker from whomever you got the Chainpuri? Or, perhaps it weighs three pounds?

Congratulations on a very nice Chainpuri lal.

Rick

hi rick
i got the chainpuri from the guy that bought it from h.i. andreas solomi
i dont know his pet? name on the forum but he's well known to jangdu as a good customer some of the other folkes here may know of him top man from my dealings with him and his good lady vikki what i find curious about the kuk
is the handle is a different style from all the other chainpuri sold here mind you i prefer it to the handle style ive seen on the newer? ones here sorry guys thats all i know about it A its an h.i. product and B its a sun signature
saying it was made by sher.

I have two chitlangis made by kami Sher and that's for sure his mark.

I have a 15" AK and 18" Vojpure by him, and indeed that is his mark. I have to say, Sher certainly makes his blades beefy and with an amazingly hardened edge! my AK is exactly 1/2" while my Vojpure is a bit over 1/2" thick - both take an amazingly sharp edge and I've never had any deformation with either (even after taking my Vojpure up against 8" thick, dead frozen pines that had more in common with stone pillars than trees)

Sorry guys. I meant to say that Kesar had the "rising" sun before 2002, not the "full" sun. (What was I thinking? Its probably just the dyslexic altzheimers acting up again.) I was just throwing up the possibility that it may have been made by Kesar since it appears to be a pre-UB blade. I haven't seen Kesar's rising sun but I have some khukuris made by Sher and am used to seeing his sun rise from the bolster, not the blade. I guess that placement of their mark could depend on how the kami is feeling that day.

Sorry for the mistake. It won't be my last.

I just checked. On one of my Sher chitlangi's the rising sun symbol is aligned to the bolster. The other one is aligned to the ricasso area below the cho.

Thanks, lal. I couldn't see it in the picture. Definitely a Sher blade. My first was a Sher Chainpuri. You've got a lovely beast there. Have fun and be safe.
