I enjoy working with wood and metal, so i decided to purchase an old axe head on ebay and fix it up a bit for a fun project. Im not an axe expert so I was curious to know if anyone knows what it is. Its a rather oddly shaped head. It has a very long heel while still having a simular blade length of other axes, and it weighs about 3.5 pounds. Its made of some type of steel from what i can tell, and has “US 10” stamped on it in a very thin font. Its pretty deep so I believe it to be a hot stamp, i cant tell if the font is italicized or if it was hand stamped. The US and 10 arent lined up very well either, so i would assume it was either two separate stamps, was done by hand with individual letters, or the stamp was a pretty elaborate design. I have two pictures that show the bottoms of the “US” and “10” and how they don’t line up. I dont think it was cut out of a different axe either, as the butt is pretty thick seemingly as a counter balance for the thinner beard. The edges are also very crisp and clean, looks like its a forged head.

not sure how the image system works, so ill just try to share the google drive link to the photos. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1eDLmwsrLkXUvJbXo0fepm917NQ0rDo17

Thanks in advance! :)

Woodings-Verona Michigan axe made in 2010

Woodings Verona or Ames made in 2010, it's a very skewed Michigan pattern.
I really don't know why the remaining common axe patterns no longer really look like they used to, but that's just how it is.
