Just got off the phone with Mr. Bill Bagwell, and I finally pulled the trigger on, perhaps, the dream knife for me - a DAMASCUS Hell's Belle. We didn't go into too much detail, but I requested that there be no spanish notch, and that I would like a stag handle.
I've ordered from Bill before - a twin set, righty/lefty Hell's Belle in cocobolo with the spanish notch on both. Dog bone handle, with pins at the bottom of the handle. BEAUTIFUL pieces that has to be felt to be believed. Powerful AND fast.
I ordered them in 2002, and received them in late 2005. Back then, the idea of ordering a damascus HB was just a pipe dream. Well, that pipe dream has become a reality. My knife won't be up for a while, so I'll have time to talk to him and refine it.
Personally, I have it on my mind to order a 2nd damascus from him, but handle materials, handle design, etc. still escapes me.
I consider Bill as one of the true great blademakers, akin to the legendary katana makers of old Japan. He is the only bowie-maker, that I can think of, who also has mastered bowie combatives. Because of this, I plan to request a piece from him more often, because he is truly rare.
