In my office, we have a very nice electric pencil sharpener; an X-acto pencil sharpener, like, the Porsche 911 of pencil sharpeners.

However, it is so much more satisfying to sharpen a pencil like this:

Right on! I like to sharpen my daughter's color pencils whenever I get the chance. I enjoy doing it and she enjoys watching her old man use a knife!

I should do this but the problem is she brings me like 30 at once!

I do this every day at work as a carpenter I have a Fixed blade J Neilson I use for all sorts of stuff on the job site.

I was at a swim meet and one of my friends needed a pencil sharpened. He wanted to know where he could find a pencil sharpener. Told him that I could take care of it for him. He hands me his pencil. Out comes the knife (I think it was my Chill), about 30 seconds later he had a sharp pencil. He was amazed because it looked like I had used a pencil sharpener on it. So fast forward a couple of weeks. Bunch of us at a swim meet eating lunch or dinner. I pull out my knife to cut my food. My friend saw me using my knife and he starts telling some of the others at lunch how he was at a swim meet and some guy pulled out a pocket knife to sharpen his pencil for him. He couldn't remember who it was. I was too busy chuckling to myself to tell him it was me.

I remember sitting in English class and having to do this. I had a little keychain Swiss army knife on me at the time, and my pencil had broken in the middle of a test so I didn't want to disturb anyone around me by asking to borrow one. I quietly slipped it off my key ring, opened it up, and sharpened the pencil up in just a few seconds, all the while trying not to seem like I was looking down at a cheat sheet:D

Closed the blade, and slipped it back on the key ring. All done!

Handy little knife to have when you're in places where you can't carry anything more substantial.

I volunteer at a math after-school class, and this kid was upset because the tip broke off. I gently took it from her, sharpened it with a CRK small Insingo, and returned it back. Turns out she was downright amazed at this skill and the feel of the pencil - the only thing she knew that sharpens a pencil was a sharpner! All said and done she completed her math puzzles on time. :-)

Back when I was a kid we used DE razor blades (actually many kids couldn't afford a sharpener so they carried used razor blades from their dad's shaving kit). It was fun - especially how you can control the sharpening process. Also useful for pencils that won't sharpen with a sharpener.

My girlfriend loves to color (lol, I know) and has me sharpen her colored pencils as well. She says I can get them sharper than the sharpener

So I did a bunch of this today...
