I had to go to the Emergency Room of Duke University Medical Center tonight to be with a neighbor who was taken by ambulance.
At the metal detector just inside the entrance I was told my pocket knife could not go in with me. I joked with the security officer, "Does this look like a weapon? It's a tool. You'd let a guy in here with his hammer wouldn't you?"
We had a laugh about it as I filled out the paperwork -- we both knew he was just doing his job, enforcing regulations that neither one of us had made. Fortunately they had a secure place to keep it while I was in the hospital. Presented my copy of the paperwork on the way out, signed for it, put it back in my pocket and drove home.
Honestly, does this look like a weapon to you? (it's the one on top in the photo):
