I didn't even know that was possible...

Well, I picked up a Norton Pike combo stone last week. Coarse and fine silicarbide, cuts cleanly.

My Case 6.5375CV was dull, so I figured this is a golden opportunity to try it out. Raise burr on mark side, raise burr pile side, polish on fine, strop gently on black compound.

Shaves.

Roughly 120 grit, followed with 250, and it shaves. Never done that before. :D I think I have a new favorite stone!

You can get shaving sharp with an 80 grit stone if you try hard enough (but by then, you'll need a new knife). I got one with a 120x SiC stone, but it was a thinly-ground fully-hardened 1095 knife, so maybe it doesn't count.
