My new grail. And I found it for a awesome price.

This is a amazing knife. Does Benchmade make anything with the comfort of my AK-47 grip (fits my hand like a glove) with this kind of smooth and sturdy feel? If it was just a little bigger it would be perfect.

Nice catch! One of the most under-rated knives, been off the radar as discontinued for a few years; great Snody design. If you like this one, seek it's sibling, the 14205 with full G-10 scales. Here's a pic, it's the lower one...the other was a copy kept for reference purposes and actually very poorly made in comparison.

I must have got really lucky. For less than $100.00 BNIB delivered and never used, This is one of the sweetest knifes I've ever held or owned.

I'm still in awe of how well made this Benchmade Heckler Koch 14200 Knife Plain Edge 154CM SNODY knife is.

Wow, that is a sweet deal.
Lucky you!
I really like my HK14205, here it is with a LSCF suit.

Other than the Ares, the 14205 is the only other Benchmade that I absolutely love.
As for the Ganzo copy, I admit that I have a few of them. The early ones were poorly made, but they improved a lot with the latest incarnation. They fixed the issue with vertical play with a larger stop pin. They also use better quality screws, and drilled the liners for the clip screws. I abused the hell out of one this weekend and it stood up very well. The only mods I made on it were to remove the Teflon washers and replace them with phosphor bronze. Also had to radius the sharp edges of the liner a little bit with my dremel.

Nice !!

The rubber on the handle of this one almost feels like leather and so far the weight doesn't bother me.
I tried a CRKT Eros with the bearing axis, a few Z.T.'s and this H&K is the smoothest to open and close of any other knife I've ever handled.

I've been looking at getting a BM Bone Collector, but it will have to wait after I found this keeper ;)

Any pictures?

Great knife. Congrats. How I miss these older HK knives. I so crave a brand new 14255 Tanto.

Note to self; I read you Agony. What I won't do as a rule is discuss the differences. If it's an issue I'll pull the photo and get another of the '205 by itself. I really didn't think of that, thanks.

I love the old H&K folders that I got in 2005 made by Benchmade in Oregon and Boker in Solingen, Germany. I still have them:

HK 34FTC made by Benchmade (14250S) & HK X-15-T.N. made by Boker:

Yeah, but I don't think the BKC mod here would appreciate pics of blatant copies of their knives on this forum.
:)

You have lost me  .. Ok .. I was asking about the Ares.

I do see a very nice one for sale here in the exchange.

Thanks for the pics Ramzar ! You saved me from having to Google it ;)

Is the Boker a liner-lock

Yes to liner lock. Also, the X15-TN has excellent resistance to rust.

These days Benchmade uses N680 stainless steel for excellent corrosion resistance. It's easier to sharpen.

What blade steel do they use on the 14200?

...and on the 14205?

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to make some custom handle scales and am looking for the rubber type material that is used on this Benchmade / Heckler Koch 14205 Knife Plain Edge Knife. I have searched and all I can find as a description of it is overmold.

Does anyone know what this material is actually made of?
Thank You

The 14205 uses G10 for the handle scales. I think it was one of Benchmade's finest knives they made.

I agree 100%

But I guess I'm a little confused as the G10 on this knife feels like rubber? Is there a special name for it? I have another knife made with G10 and it feels harder.
Can I get G10 like this at a hardware or home depot?

Thanks

Sadly, big box hardware stores won't have the same materials used on the overmold. By the way, the material is not actually called "overmold" rather the process of the way the handle is constructed. The rubber material is in essence, "molded over" the cast aluminum handles (14200 in Ramzars post).
If you want to dive into handle making, you will have to search for knifemaking materials, and stores that sell supplies specifically for knife making. Standard run-of-the-mill nuts, bolts, screws, and other stuff used in home repair/maintenance might not make for a quality material.
